I thought the galettes were just delicious. The galettes were well cooked, not overcooked or undercooked. You can choose many flavours and they offer vegetarian options as well. The price are fair, not over the top. It’s pity that the decor isn’t special. Perhaps they could put a more French style into the decor in this restaurant. The location is convenient, in the center of the city. If you would like to try a galette, you should taste the food at La Gourmandise.
The food was not bad. The dish was a little bit small. The staff was really friendly. I might eat again next time.
My husband and I were visiting Nelson. Arriving late on Friday afternoon we did not have a booking but popped into ask about a table for dinner. The waitress behind the counter asked if we had a booking and when we replied no were informed, rudely, that they were fully booked so I can’t comment on the quality of the food, but I certainly can about their service. While the food may not be free, the appalling customer service and arrogance are.
Very authentic and tasty French food. Was made even more ‘French’ as sat next to a delightful elderly French couple whom we endeavored to communicate with! We will be back for the Galette and Crme Brulee, delish. Did find it quite noisy as tables seemed very close together and one of the wait staff was very uncommunicative.
We liked the cafe’s style, which is yellow, red and natural wood. The dishes looked typically European. The decor looks like a European cafe. The atmosphere is great and reminds you of Europe. It’s a good place to go out with a small group or with friends. It’s easy to understand the menu, there is a wide range of food. We were interested in the kind of food available. The staff were very friendly, and the service is absolutely excellent, although we couldn’t sit where we wanted to.
This place is a treasure. I go for the galettes, which are beautifully thin buckwheat crepes, papery crisp at the edges, folded around lovely fresh savoury fillings. One of the best I’ve had was a seasonal special with grilled figs, goat cheese and walnuts, but the regular choices are enough to keep me coming back whenever I’m in Nelson. The sweet crepes are heaven for any dessert junkie or kid. Good coffee, pleasant service. This is the real deal, an authentic French-run creperie as you’d find in a French town. They also do classic French dishes as dinner specials – haven’t tried those but I plan to, as the kitchen clearly know what they are doing. You’ll often hear French spoken at other tables, as the French locals seem to have adopted the place. I love this place. Allez!
Recently renovated and reopened, to our joy. Friendly, welcoming service & great food. Serves galettes (savory thin buckwheat crepe-like) and sweet crepes. The vegetarian galette is excellent and the coffee is good.
