Lovely location on the banks of the Maitai, unfortunately the meal didn’t live up to the location. After waiting a while to order our meals it then took about 40 minutes to arrive, given the cafe wasn’t busy this was surprising. When the meals did arrive I found my meat pattie was cooked on the outside but under cooked inside and barely warm. Not sure what the other meat was on top of the burger either. Chips came in a jar and again were over cooked and barely warm. I left the meat and ate only the buns and chips in the end. My wife found her chicken barely warm but did eat it and her chips but left the bacon and most of the rest of her meal. Overall a disappointing experience today.
Loved the laid back ambiance of River Kitchen. They are situated right on the river front, with a great menu & service. The coffee was also good & we will not mention how divine their lemon slices are, topped with copious amounts of cream, very fattening but so delicious. Hey it’s OK you walk it off on The Abel Tasman Track!!
Lovely location. Really wanted to like this place. Had to go and get our own menu after waiting 10mins following being told one would be bought to us. Took 45minutes for meals to arrive. Did ask one of the waitresses if there was a problem but she just smiled at me and didn’t answer. Coffee was lovely. Meals were really average. Arrived stone cold. Chewy cold pancakes. Brioche fried and tasted like old fat. Eggs under cooked. Left me feeling quite nauseous.
Lovely setting for brekky with views of the river. My mocha was pretty good but our food was average. Hubby had the pulled pork burger which was disappointing as the pork was not pulled at all; rather it was a microwaved chunk of dry pork. They tried to compensate the dryness with excessive amounts of cole slaw which did not work. My eggs bene was nothing special.
We were late for bfast but luckily they have a reat eggs benedict dish with salmon and spinach on a gluten free slice of bread for lunch so I was in food heaven. Great coffee as well.
Went to this cafe twice. Very nicely located on the edge of the tidal river, with a lovely outlook. The cafe itself is nicely decked out. The food was excellent and staff were attentive and friendly.I would recommend paying them a visit. 🙂
exellent food went for brunch couple of times with 4 friends and wow fantastic .dont know how they get those eggs so perfectly poached! i had eggs Benedict on home made fish cakes and spinach just yummy. service was great even though very busy ,reasonably priced also that was a bonus fantastic for birthday brunch etc
