We had a few drinks and a snack here recentlyThe service was very goodNice buzz to the placeExcellent range of beersWe shared a Poutine which was very tasty but messyThis is a franchised bar I believeAnd it does a good job in what is the secondary bar precinct in Nelson sited handily in Hardy StreetOnly a short wander from the Trafalgar precinct
Sprig & Fern is a small franchise, comprising of three outlets around Nelson. Going there was not my initial choice as I am not an avid proponent of bar food; Nevertheless, I was accompanied by someone special and she seemed to want to go to that particular place for some reason- Eventhough, she asked me to choose the restaurant in the first place. But, I digress. My accompanying party had a salad and asked if she could have some meat included in it, alas her request was denied by the bar manager. I had a poutine. I realized a few minutes after ordering that the manager had not given me a receipt. So I asked for one and he seemed a bit reluctant to give it. He told me that it was almost impossible to get one after the order was taken. Thankfully, he was contradicted by a knowledgeable bar staff, who told him how to generate one on the till. The bar manager eventually obliged and was rather more attentive after the initial first impression. He even brought the receipt to the table, along with some extra cutlery and napkins. He seemed like a nice guy, maybe he was having a bad night or something else was bothering him. The poutine was a bit messy, although quite good, considering it was bar food. My companion intimated that in the past she ordered salad with meat in it from this place. I duly noted her comment. I cannot possibly recommend this place to bring someone special to since the service that night was poor and the atmosphere was too loud. In conclusion, I would have given them a higher rating if they had accommodated my friend with her initial request.
A beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon calling for some munchies and drinks, we entered Sprig snd Fern.So pretty much all places were closed for lunch at 4 pm, not exactly the lunch time in south. Sprig and fern welcomed us with open arms. A small joint with just the right amount of customers that doesn’t make the place feel very crowded nor does it feel empty. We saw a table doing the beer tasting and decided to go for it right away. The bar tender gave us a choice of 13 craft beers to choose from and shortlist to 8. Choices as follows:1) blonde2)pilsner3)ale4)dark beer5)berry cider6)alcoholic lemonade These are the generic names of the type of beer and not the names they had. The beers were totally craft. Delight. Ordered the chips with aioli. They appeared to be the regular chips version but upon taste they could only be one of the two things:Either they were triple friedOr someone cancelled their order and they fried the same chips again and we got them. Anyhow, the best chips i have had so far. Also had the jerk chicken pizza. Thin crust. Not too much of chicken. Probably a tiny chunk per piece. Not too impressed by the pizza.Price wise: $30 for a pizza and 2 pints of beer. Would I return: Yes
