This is a friendly, cosy place to spend a few hours. The menu has so many good options and has a good gf menu that includes a pale ale. The lamb and ale pie was was rich and filling and really enjoyed by my partner. I had the beef brisket roast, so tender and delicious.
That night getting to my destination was a bit of a mission. Indeed, I was closely followed by a freaking fanatical truck driver. I kept to the speed limit, which is 80Km per hour for most of the drive from Atawhai to the entry of Nelson. So I kept to my 80km per hour whilst the truck driver was closely tailing me, flashing his light in an attempt to get me to go faster but I didn’t. Now, let’s get back to my review after this unusual side note- I went to the Vic’s with my usual group of friends, a tight bunch of eclectic, worldly and exciting individuals. I was even introduced to a few interesting and vibrant new ones, a man from Germany and a talented Latin dance teacher named Nadia. I had a soda, lime and bitter, which was very reasonably priced. Then, I proceeded inside, along with my group to enjoy the band playing that night, the Boogie Train. An interesting anecdote, the banner behind the band is of a steam locomotive, which is a perfect analogy to the name of the band. The music was good but a bit loud for me, considering the deaf defying yet excellent performance by the Hot Potato at the BoatHouse the night before. Fortunately, this time, I came prepared and I had earplugs capable of reducing the noise level to a mere 26 decibels. It was a neat and enjoyable evening at the Vic’s. My only recommendation to the management is to have the music, either live or recorded, played at different volumes throughout the night- In order to create more of a varied atmosphere throughout evenings.
Went there on Anzac afternoon after another place was shut . Glad we did the good was great we had the calamari and a bowl of fries was cooked perfectly and the sauce that come with the squid was really delicious I wanted more
The food was very tasty and the service was prompt. The ambiance, especially at the outside tables was very inclusive and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a fun evening dinner
We came here on a Sunday for the $20 special. I ordered the roast dinner which was a delicious and the portion was big. I had the apple crumble for dessert which was also delicious as the sweetness was just right.
It’s cosy, warm and inviting. Perfect for some hearty pub food. We came for lunch and were served by a very friendly barman/waiter. I had the pulled beef sandwich with blue cheese which was tasty but could have done with a bit more blue cheese. Hubby had the pork ribs which were falling off the bones and melt in you mouth. We liked the extra condiments at the table so you could add extra bbq sauce to the ribs. Great variety of beers on tap to wash it all down and we were really impressed with the service.
My husband and I are visiting from Auckland so we are well versed in restaurant going. First night here we were lucky enough to decide on The Vic for dinner. 300gm sirloin and roast of the day. Perfection. I wish we could transplant this restaurant to Auckland!Beautiful setting, great ambience and impeccable professional and friendly service. We were left wanting for nothing. Highly recommended and thank you The Vic for a great first night in Nelson. We didn’t plan on it but now we have tried it we will return this week!
