We decided to have dinner at this restaurant after hearing good reviews about it. Sadly this was not our experience. Let me start by saying the welcome we got was poor, waitress was cold and unfriendly. We were not told that we had to order and pay at the counter. We asked for our sirloin steaks to be medium rare, but it came ‘well done’ and was overcooked and dry! The menu stated that the sirloin was 250g but mine wasn’t anywhere near that, not to mention it also had a very thick layer of untrimmed sinew on it. Mum had the chicken cranberry and brie filo pastry which was looked like it had been deep fried rather than baked. It taste like ‘old oil’, looked very oily and the filling was bland. Overall food was very bland (lack of seasonings), overcooked, oily and service was poor. A totally disappointing experience!

We decided to visit the Stables after looking through the entertainment book for a place to dine, on arrival we encountered a nice pub setting and where greeted by friendly staff who took us through to the restaurant. The meals where great value for the price and the staff where fantastic so was the local lager on tap. We used a 2 for 1 meal voucher. We will return when we are back up there and i would gladly pay full price (no voucher)

Went for dinner tonight, what a disappointment. Food was very bland and very over priced. I remember The Stables as being value for money not any more. It is just a pub but with high end restaurant prices. I wouldn’t return

When my Mum and I went here for dinner one night, it was early and and quiet but the service was good, they knew what they were doing and were helpful. The meals were exceptional and huge but were still good prices. One of the best meals I’ve had in a while and nice surroundings too.

A classic pub-style menu, unpretentious and very tasty, with generous portions, great friendly service, and a good range of beers on tap. Can get quite boisterous on a Friday night, but that’s part of the ambience – fine-dining this isn’t, and it makes no apologies for it!!

I have eaten at The Stables many times and am pleased with the experience. As soon as you enter, you order your drinks which you can then take back to your table. Water is provided and service is quick to take your order. Waiting time is average but the meal is always served by a friendly member of the staff, and any specifics on the meal are detailed and followed through with. The restaurant is beautiful and has a warm fire for winter nights, and outside dining for summer. There is an average range of meal options but the staff are always ready to help, and you are asked for drink refills many times.

Initial service on arrival was a little too casual. eg We were to be seated upstairs and rather than be shown to our table, we were asked about drinks at the bar and carried the drinks upstairs rather than have thm brought to our table when we were seated. After this however the service was attentive and unhurried, pleasant and friendly. The meals however were excellent and the seafood platter waqs absolutely the best I have ever had.Overall an excellent dining experience despite the dodgy start.Recommended
