The hygiene and pest control are my big concerns about this restaurant. My wife and I visited this place in the afternoon of 25Nov. After we ordered our meal and drinks, we sat down at a table behind the fish smoker cabinet. All in a sudden, we saw a live big rat sitting under the smoker, its long tail stuck out. I approached to 2 crews and 2 waitresses, pointed to the rat that was still sitting there, asking them to remove the rat. Unfortunately, I was told, “it is common”, and there is nothing they would do to remove the big rat. Then, we moved to a table far from the smoker. After, we reported this issue to city council, hope the council officer will follow up this case to maintain the standard of hygiene, pest control and food safety.
The food is a 3 (at best), but the fishing scores a 4 (for the fun and ease factor). So 3.5 it is. This is not true fishing. You are not baiting hooks or testing waters. You are essentially catching fish in a big barrel (with food pellets). But that doesn’t take away from the fun. The salmon fill the lake and it’s your job the swing the rod. You pay and eat what you catch. And if you can’t catch anything in the lake, you get to literally put your line in a small tank filled with fish. I think I could have caught one by hand. It’s a bit of excitement for your lazy afternoon. Next you pick how you want your fish done. I chose a half and half mixture of sashimi and basil and garlic smoked. The sashimi was as fresh as it gets, meaning it also had a slightly metalic/earthy flavour (but delicious). The smoke was subtle and slightly sweet (but moist and flavourful). I loved both. The side options were minimal. Garlic bread, chips, or salad. But it was sufficient to compliment the salmon. A nice sweet rose was a perfect match to the fatty fish. Not a culinary delight, but a fun time to be had by all. A great way to get your feet wet with fishing(ish).
Every year we would come and visit Anatoki While on holiday, it never fails to disappoint. The atmosphere is great and I love how you can catch your own fish and then get it smoked, choosing from a variety of flavours.
Anatoki Salmon have created a wonderful environment. They supply you with all the fishing gear you need. You go catch your fish and then they will process it in whatever style you wish. You only pay for the fish you catch. The best option is to make sure you know how much you can afford and restrict yourself to that number of fish. It is way too easy to get carried away and catch more than you want!!You can sit and eat your freshly caught, hot smoked salmon there at the outdoor cafe.Or you can order a variety of salmon dishes and sit and watch the other tourists fishing. We opted for that choice and enjoyed a platter for two.It came with a lovely variety – salmon bitten balls, salmon muffin which was wonderful, sushi, and several other salmon items.Thoroughly recommend Anatoki as real experience not to be missed.Great place to take children too.The only down side was the dogs wandering around the cafe area.I certainly did not appreciate them there while I was eating.
