I have a recipe book from Wholemeal and have wanted to visit this place for years. Called in for morning tea – great, friendly service, lovely coffee and counter food. My only disappointment was there was no ginger crunch available. Maybe next time!

A definite to go for in the morning for breakfast if you are in Takaka. Serves a wide range of fresh baked, shelved and a la carte dishes to get you started with a coffee. Love the ambience and the artworks. Wonderful vibes with so many lovely people getting along with thier lives, business or travel around you. I always find the perfect breakfast here and let me not get started on the fruit ice cream. I miss your ice cream man!!! Such a star <3

my experience was one of rare food moments..the corn fritters were divine, crispy and light with a salad on the side with bacon (smoked and crispy)!!each bite melted in my mouth..wanted to takeaway another batch before my partner stopped me. 2days later went back and had the eggs benedict with that beautiful organic smoked bacon!! never tasted anything as fresh, organic and authentic..my taste buds were having a ‘field’ day..definitely a place I will revisit again every time Im down south!! the decor FAB..very art deco/ funky and old skool..love the art work..very hippish. Staff friendly and ambience was ‘cool’ and chilled..

Having turned up there today after a ride from Nelson, I found the food fairly average and the service worse and fairly ho hum. The worst part was being told off for putting motorcycle helmets on the table, how pathetic, as a group we spent probably in the vicinity of $200-$250, and to get told off on top of that, I will now be boycotting this establishment.

Cinnamon pinwheel rules, as does the eggs bene. Cool building and always nice to pop in and hang out for a bit. Lots to check out on the notice board too

I had heard rave reports of this cafe over the years so was keen to go there while visiting Takaka.I was extremely disappointed. The food was just average. The staff didn’t seem to care, the service not terribly great. The girl behind the counter was almost rude in her responses to my queries.I thought it might’ve just been me but on chatting with some other folk later in the day found they had experienced the same treatment. The only upside to our visit was we chose to sit out the back overlooking the garden centre. It was delightful sitting there in the sunshine instead of inside the dark gloomy building. My overall feelings are that they have had a good reputation for so long and they are now resting on their laurels.Certainly will not be recommending them – there are other much nicer places to eat in Takaka.

Great range of yummy food & plenty of seating! Good area for the kids to play. Always look forward to stopping there on the way through Takaka.
