We recently read in the local Nelson paper of the opening of The Villa Cafe in a lovely old villa in Wakefield, which had been used as a cafe and antique store in the recent past. The couple running the new cafe seemed like they were very keen and with a background in catering of various sorts it seemed like this would be a great place for a coffee and some food. We arrived to find the place humming with customers….cycling and driving ones. Found a spot in the garden and ordered some lovely home made Braised Beef Pies and coffee. The pies duly arrived, piping hot and absolutely delicious. Probably the nicest, tastiest pies we had tasted for a long while. There was a whole sumptuous menu with full meals also available so we will try that another time. There is also a shop in an adjacent building selling deli type supplies of pastas from Italy, Manuka honey from a local NZ supplier, local special sausages and meats and all sorts of other goodies to tempt. All in all, a great new place for a visit to share with friends and family. Highly recommended!!
