Great for afternoon tea. The staff is very friendly. The pastry could be a hit or miss, sometimes it is just flat and hard and not fluffy at all. I will still be getting them when we are down in The Base. The custard filling goes well with the pastry.
Got 4 cream puffs for about $12-$13 which was a little bit on the pricey side but they were so good. The pastry was still soft and flaky (not crumbly). Kinda tasted like as if it was fresh even though we got it about 30mins before the mall was about to close. Love the strawberry filling. Wasn’t overly sweet. The cookie pastry was my favourite. Would only come here for a treat though. The lady behind the counter was very friendly too and told us about this deal.
A little too pricey for my liking so i can’t say they’re value for money when i consider other sweet treats around town at a similar price, but still quite delicious none the less. Will be an infrequent treat for me unfortunately.
Dropped by during my visit to Hamilton this weekend. I’ve always wanted to try out the original store that started this cream puff journey. When I got to the store, there wasn’t a great long line like there is in Auckland. As a result, they aren’t continuously baking and making fresh pastry. This meant the pastry isn’t as fresh! When it’s warm out of the oven, it’s got a very scrumptious scent and is soft in your mouth. With it having been there a while, the entire pastry had hardened and was cold. The cream filling was colder than usual and was a very mild matcha flavour. Service was okay. The shop was manned by only one person so he seemed super busy tidying up his space. The stall was clearly well kept and clean.I still consider this dessert to be too expensive. But I would still recommend and support it in hopes to encourage growth and variety!
Stopped by here on the way to Rotorua from Auckland. Was definitely worth it. You got to choose the type of cream puff you want then the filling for the puff. Went with the tasting pack to be able to try everything. My favourite would be the eclair puff with the cookie and cream filling.Nice quick pit stop for a road trip.
Seriously. This place has amazing cream puffs and I say this as a hater of sweet pastry. Best choice is the cookie crunch puff with cookies and cream filling.
Food ordered: Sample Pack (4x assorted cream puffs w/ chocolate filling)Bill: $14.99Big tummy: Wow. Just wow. I hadn’t stopped at Beard Papa before, but having tried them now, I’m kicking myself for not discovering this little gem earlier. Their creme puffs are ridiculously light and fluffy, whilst bursting with a rich creamy mousse of your preferred flavour. We decided to go with the chocolate cream, though from memory there is also vanilla or mango flavours as well. The price isn’t too bad either, considering the quality. We will certainly be calling in to Beard Papa again next time we venture to Hamilton. I just wish they opened a branch in Auckland. Little tummy: We were walking through The Base mall when Beard Papa caught our eye. It’s just a little establishment tucked in the middle of the mall, so it’s fairly easy to miss. We decided to give it a try and we certainly weren’t disappointed. We ordered the sample pack of four creme puffs, filled with chocolate filling. Each creme puff was perfectly light, whilst the chocolate filling was rich and not too sweet. Definitely a sweet treat worth checking out.
