A disappointing stop for us in Cambridge at Rata Cafe. The cafe looks inviting and cosy but alas the food doesnt live up to the promise. My wife ordered the crumbed Dory which was a frozen fish product, accompanied by very average chips. I ordered the lamburger and was surprised to find that the meat patty was also a frozen and re-heated product just like those available in any supermarket. All in all below average food that was slow to arrive. The coffee was average. The cakes are good but this alone would not tempt us to eat here again..

Very disappointed to read in the reviews the current owner passing the buck for their service and food. Sue openly states that they took the cafe over in 2011 when I know that I sold it to them in 2008. Grrrrrr

Nice atmosphere, not too crowded on a Saturday morning. My first impression was tarnished a little by the cabinets with condensation and weak lighting. Our flat whites were wishy-washy and tasted more like a latte. Salad was wilted and relish was unpleasant. Gluten free blueberry muffin was very average. Panini was great, though! Food was delivered promptly and with a smile. Very comfy couches.

Not well patronised at lunchtime so our meals (including GF option) arrived with a less than usual wait. It was not obvious that we could have purchased wine – but we didn’t ask.Meals were quite sufficient for lunch – one had to leave some salad. Coffee was served at the end of the meal as requested (we have found that some cafes cannot understand this.)Blackboard menu was a bit cluttered and needed glasses to read, but we would certainly return on one of our next visits to the town

Years ago when Rata was first opened by the Corbett family I felt their Eggs Benedict was the best I’d ever tasted. Fast forward a few years and at Easter I discovered some things don’t stay the same. Extremely ordinary and disappointing eggs benedict this time round. Most unusual to put poached eggs under the grill so there is a crust on top. Very bland hollandaise sauce, brown avocado. As for my partners meatless nachos with unmelted cheese and a heap of tomato topped with avo and sour cream, having never had vegetarian nachos before he unfortunately didn’t see the small v denoting vegetarian nachos and certainly would not have ordered mince less nachos. Uncleared and unwiped tables does not instill any desire to go back to what used to be one of my favourite cafes. Very disappointing indeed.
