I visited here on Saturday 5/10/13, with a group of people.The cafe wasn’t busy and we all thought the food was great!The huge let down was the dark-haired lady who served us. I would like to suggest that she take some kind of customer-service course. It was obvious she did not want to be there. We all felt as though we were a complete annoyance to her. Not once did she smile. She seemed very snobby and grumpy. What a shame for such a touristy town. I sure hope she isn’t like this all the time. Very un-inviting and rude.
What a fantastic find this cafe turned out to be. I had the beyond yummy creamy leek and chicken chowder, Hubby had the mussel chowder – a meal in a bowl (with no lack of mussels!) accompanied by two slices each of nice crisp garlic bread. We also had very good coffees. Total cost – $25.00 which I thought was excellent value for the quality and quantity we received. Service was friendly and very fast. There is a choice of seating – indoor and small outside courtyard area (dog friendly outside), we sat inside by the warm and sunny window so we could keep an eye on our dog in the car and got the chance to check out other peoples meal choices, everything looked good and all the customers present seemed happy and relaxed.I think this cafe is underrated in comparison to some others in Coromandel and we will definitely return on our next visit!
This cafe was recommended by a local as doing the best mussel chowder in Coromandel.Taking this advice I went there full of expectation and came away disappointed.The chowder came with only four mussels suspended in a thin watery liquid and nothing like a chowder.Maybe they were having an off day but thenshould paying customers ever have to strike an off day?There should never be any.By contrast on another occassion I had a seafood chowder at another nearby cafe whose name I forget and by contrast it was superb nice and thich like a chowder should be.
