My hubby took me to The Roaming Giant for a lunch date. It had been a long time we had time to ourselves and we were eager to try the place out for the first time. We were impressed with how nice and clean the place was. You could eat off the floors, it was so clean! Well lit, it was beautifully decorated and comfortable to dine in. The staff were very friendly. The beer selection was vast. They made me a Bloody Mary which vaguely tasted like one and arrived with no veg. But Ive noticed that its fairly hard to get a proper Bloody Mary here in NZ. My hubby thoroughly enjoyed his beer he got on tap. He ordered the Hagrid Pizza and said it was one of the best pizzas he has eaten in NZ. I ordered the Steak Salad. The steak was cut into flat squares that could be used by the secret service as ninja throwing stars. The meat was bland and over cooked. The salad part of this meal was delightful. The pricing was average for NZ. I give TRG 4.5 out of 5 stars because of the challenging meat. Otherwise, it was a perfect meal.
Worst food experienced. We ordered a pizza and the chicken burger. The pizza came out half cooked which ended up being glugey. The chicken burger was tasteless and both the buns and chips were stale. For the amount of money paid we both left highly disappointed. Apart from the food, very friendly team and clean restaurant
We had a buy one get one free which was a great surprise. We have been many times before and really enjoyed the service and the food. This time we thought we would try the burgers and chips.Mostly it was all OK. Only thing I didn’t like was the “Plastic Cheese” they used in the burgers. Plastic cheese is for your 5 year olds school lunch. NZ is renowned for our dairy products including some really nice cheeses. Why not add some value to the burger and use real cheese.
