We went for lunch on a family trip to NZ from Australia and, the Muddy River Cafe served the best food of our trip. The menu was refreshing and everything from soup to burgers and fish and chips were well presented. Our food arrived quickly even though the kitchen was understaffed. Our waiter was also happy to provide some local anaecdotes and information for a few curious travellers. Absolutely worth the cost of the international flight just to visit here 🙂
Took 3 friends out to Sunday dinner as had been recommended by Turua locals $10 specials were excellent and adequate. Waiter forgot drinks order had to re enquire. Service was so poor. Waited 1 hour 40 mins for fish and chips off the blackboard specials also a hunger buster for $19.00 consisted of sandwiches of soggy white bread stuck on a kebab stick served on a board with a jug of gravy and fries. Meat was very tough to chew. One of my guests was carged $23 dollars for the same fish and chip meal as the $10 because it was pan fried!!!! this included a drink of pineapple juice. Fish meals were served to the wrong diners one battered and one pan fried had to be exchanged at the table. Three other tables arrived after us and were served before us. I note the rave reviews were 2011. Never again. Other diners were very vocal about the wait. Sorry Muddy River let us down and no apology when paying you let us down.
