We had a family dinner, and everything was excellent. The ambiance was superb, the decor being deerstalkerish, but also pleasantly harking back to a time when life in New Zealand was more basic and less complicated. The cob loaves with garlic butter were generous, and the pork spare ribs and the pig hunter’s roast were very favourably commented upon. The desserts were also generous in size. Special mention must be made of the service provided by the waitress–Miss Illinois, surely–who catered to our every need without being over zealous. Finally, we considered that the cost of the meal for the six of us was very reasonable! This was during our first visit to Cambridge–should we visit the town again, we will certainly make a point of eating at The Five Stags!

Top notch all the way, visited here after the final day of the fieldays & the place was humming, hardly any bar tables left & the restaurant filled up pretty quick – a pretty good sign of a decent pub! Warm friendly atmosphere, spotlessly clean. Decided to stay for an early tea & it was delicious! Everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed their meal & we will definitely be back when we attend the fieldays next year!!

Although its a nice setting we found the meals expensive – and the pork and steak was fatty. The salmon was sent back as it was frozen in the middle. Shame as we wont be returning!!

Had lunch at the 5 Stags on Sunday had read mixed reviews but thought we would give it ago.Service was good staff were enthusiastic and friendly nothing like a smile to set the right tone, clearly a little in experienced example we were at a small table the cutlery got delivered but empty glasses weren’t cleared as the same time, waitress walked back inside with empty tray. This aside happy with the service the cheerful way the staff went around doing their business made up for any inexperience.Food was so, so. My wife ordered there equivalent of a fisherman’s basket we were expecting the normal over battered offering of shellfish, calamari etc but the fish was also the type you get out of a packet rather then fresh and freshly battered. I note they had fish and chips on their menu I would shudder to think they offered the pre-battered fish out of a box with their fish and chips. Rest of our meals were standard fare nothing to write home about. We would go back but wouldn’t go out of our way to go there.

Went for dinner, wasn’t expecting a five star meals as it is a Tavern after all. Was a very welcoming and homely atmosphere, we got seated, told what they did not have and what the fish of the day was, presented our children with the kids menu and felts for colouring. We ordered our meals 2 fish bites and chips, 1 chicken nugget and chips, Garlic bread, Beer Battered fish and chips and a Hereford Scotch fillet M/R, 1 Orange Juice, and 1 Handle of speights. The DrinksThe OJ was nothing fantastic, tasted similar what McDonalds serveThe speights was just cool, probably from the temperature of the tap being poured into an ambient handle. For a tavern this should be a cold handle from a glass fridge would have made it taste much better. The mealsThe children’s meals were pretty much Faultless, ample food for them but perhaps leave the pepper off the chips (Hint: Not many children like pepper)Fish and Chips – Fish was nice and well cooked, wasabi tartare very nice balance in flavour and no heat.Hereford Scotch Fillet M/R – Nice Presentation, Potatoe boulangere – cooked perfectly and nice flavour, Port Jus, was a great balance and complements to the Chef for that, Scotch fillet was left to be desired, though it was tender, the inside of the scotch was BLUE, the ouside was cooked nicely, I personally can tollerate a rare steak but not blue. I informed the waitress when she came around and she offered to take it back to get recooked, I declined as we needed to get going as our children were getting tired, I finished eating around it and the rest on the plate. As we left to pay the waitress said the Chef agreed it was rare, unfortunately I could not hold back my sarcasm, and said they could call a vet to revive it. We both had a cackle, they gave us a children’s meal for free for the inconvenience.Over all other than my meal and drink it was satisfactory and would recommend others to check it, out though if you order a steak ask for it to be 2 degrees more than you normally do. lol.

Went for brunch expecting top notch, going by recent reviews, however it was a slight bit disappointing. Went with my family. I had the Eggs Benedict (very small serving) and very little hollandaise sauce and spinach. The cabiata bread was OK..but not wonderful. The bacon however was delicious and eggs cooked to perfection. My husband’s Big Breakfast looked quite plentiful and was OK and my son’s bacon and eggs were good.Would like to try dinner here, so looking forward to that. Perhaps dinners are more their thing.

Great to have something in Leamington and the building is very well done. While new, it feels like an old hunting lodge.Went for brunch but it is more se tup as a bar with a restaurant as a semi after thought.Service was the biggest thing to bring this place down. It appeared only two people where working in a rather large dining room. Once we finally got served it was friendly and good service.Food the the fully cooked breakfast was large enough for me but was mainly egg, only a single sausage (not a breakfast one), small amount of bacon, mushrooms and half a tomato. The toast was meant to be cabbiata while it was it was a cheap commercial copy and more bread than cabbiata. All in all well cooked and not a bad price.Your coffee could do with some work though.
