My partner and I have had a delicious meal here previously so yesterday made the drive from Hamilton to return for lunch. Well worth the drive, delicious pork and prawn spring rolls, amazing pork belly. There were plenty of dishes on the menu I was sad to miss out on so we’ll certainly be returning:)
First time at Onyx and definitely won’t be the last!! The food was absolutely delicous. The staff were friendly and it didn’t take long for meals to be brought out. Meal sizes were also generous, I actually couldn’t even finish my meal and it’s not often that happens. I would recommend this place to anyone. I loved it and look forward to returning!!
Table for four! First time at this place. Food was presented very well indeed and well cooked. I had duck and was good moist meat (not always the case with duck I hear). The others in the party thought their various dishes were just as good.Service very good. Very efficient; pleasant and friendly; but not overbearing. Atmosphere was conducive to good social dinning. Was mostly full of diners during the night (good sign).Would recommend to anyone to check it out.
While traveling to Auckland we needed a place to stop for dinner. We asked around where was good to go and they all said Onyx! so we listened and went a long. The place was very busy for a weds night even people sitting in the bar. We hadn’t booked but still went up to reception and asked, the women behind the counter said there was a table free until 8pm would we like to sit there or we could have a meal in the bar. being 6.30 we snatched up with free table. What a wonderful experience! the food was outstanding and presented beautifully and good size portions while the service complimented the night, the staff seemed young but very focused on the customers. We will be back!
Had a surprise birthday dinner here with friends who live in Karapiro. Service and ambience were great, but was incredibly disappointed with the food. Four of us at the table had hapuka at $38 a pop and all the fish dishes were shocking!! The fish was rubbery and stringy and so overcooked, really terrible. We didn’t want to make a big scene about it as it was our friend’s birthday, but we told the waiter and another member of staff at the counter. The disappointing aspect of the night was that our concerns were not acknowledged or dealt with in any way. We will not be going back to Onyx again.
This is a very good restaurant. The service is top-notch and the quality of the food is consistent. The mains are a bit on the pricey side though. A good option for an upmarket pizza too. I also like that they stock Magners.
