Visited this little gem on Saturday night on our way through from Hobbiton! My friends were very impressed as they had travelled quite extensively and had no expectations of Thai food in NZ. Simply, it was great, tasty and reasonably priced. If you like Roti then order this! Had the Thai Green curry & my friends the Massaman Chicken Curry, it was gorgeous! My friends recommend at least stopping and trying this place out and I have to agree! Give it a go. Decor is outdated and service does seem a little erratic but the food was great!
The food was OK, not bad but nothing wonderful, service terrible/erratic. All young girls serving all Very young and inexperienced. An older more experienced person should have worked with them as they had NO people skills! They Never checked/asked if everything was fine or if we needed anything more etc. Couldn’t ever get any staff when wanted them they were always hiding in the Kitchen, consequently we witnessed many people coming to the entrance and either giving up and leaving or walking to the kitchen to get served! Prices high especially in a country town with 14/16yr old girls serving. we found out after that the steamed rice they served with the meal (NEVER asked us if we wanted rice/never ordered it!) they charge $3 PP for it! A bit rude when you don’t know this till you get the bill, Corkage is $8.50 per bottle, no problem with that cheaper than buying off their wine list.Such a pity as it would be great for a small place like Matatmata to have a Good Ethnic restaurant.

An older more experienced waiter/waitress could have been alongside them. They had no people skills about greeting, seating, checking if anything else is needed. The menu card with specials was old and sticky and the price menu had a very faint line through it making it difficult to see what the actual price was. The food was enjoyable but the hap hazard service was disappointing.
