I was a member of a group of four, (two couples) who had brunch at the cafe on the Sunday 17th Feb, after the Pat Benetar concert the previous day. We arrived at about 10.10am and each ordered coffee and meals. I ordered mine on one number and my partner and the other couple combined theirs on another number. We all received our drinks within 15 minutes, which was acceptable as they were busy. I received my meal after 30 minutes, which was also OK and the food was quite reasonable. The problem was the others did not receive there meals! After 45 minutes my partner approached a staff member for an explanation. We are unsure if any action resulted from this. After 55 minutes my partner approached a different staff member who went to the kitchen to investigate. We were told 4 minutes for the meals. My partners meal was delivered after that time, but the others were not and no explanation was given. The other male in our party held the table number above his head, but this was ignored by staff, despite them having to walk right past him to get to the kitchen. His meal finally arrived 10 minutes later, and his partners 5 minutes after that. She was fairly distraught by this time as she had been waiting an hour and 15 minutes for food. The only comment from the waitress was sorry for the wait. No explanation or compensation was offered for the exceptionally long time we waited. I felt the staff were aware that there had been a mistake made, but they all decided to ignore us and just continue on as if nothing was wrong. None of us will ever go back and we recommend people avoid this cafe. The food was OK but the service is the worst I have experienced. Taupo does not need this sort of thing as its image is based on providing quality service to tourists and visitors. These guys deserve to go out of business.
