Enjoyed our first lunch at Pepe’s. Lovely relaxing location by the water. Friendly staff – the waitress even took time to have a joke with the children! We thought that was a nice extra touch, given children are often ignored by wait staff. The café was very busy, but our meals came quite quickly and were value for money. We will definitely return on our next visit to Tairua.
We came in for breakfast, the staff where so polite and so friendly, we didn’t have to wait long after we ordered, the food was so beautifully presented, it was almost a shame to eat it, it had pretty decorative flowers around the sides. It tasted fantastic, and was a very generous portion, also the coffee was wonderful, we went back the next morning for another coffee, we will always go there when we are in Tairua, which is quite often. Thank you so much, wonderful place.
Gosh, where to start? The meals came out with a side salad that looked like it had been prepared in 2012. I must admit we can not comment on the taste of this, as none of us were game to try it. My daughter’s lasagne proved rather hard to cut. The culprit: the bottom lasagne sheet that had been cooked within an inch of it’s life. To call it carbon (or cardboard) would not be stretching the truth. And the fish and chips for $18 was the tiniest piece of fish (yes, ONE piece of fish), chucked on top of a heap of undercooked Watties frozen shoe string fries. Do yourselves a favour, and when dining in Tairua, don’t be sucked in by the enticing deck.
A group of us went to Tairua for my birthday and went to The Pepe for breakfast. The service was very helpful and everyone enjoyed their food (I was far too full to finish mine, it was great value for money). I didn’t mention needing to be dairy-free, but when the issue came up the waiter simply advised that for future reference it would be much easier to book in as being dairy-free and had no problem going back and fixing the issue. A nice waitress also came and gave me a few complimentary packets of jam/honey for my toast rather than me having butter. It just overall went smoothly and the service was excellent. 5 Stars.
