Yes we are in the same town and yes I know the owner, however I have eaten here over many years prior to current ownership as well. The Rod N Gun has always had consistently good food and always very friendly, these days I cannot go past lamb shanks or orange roughy.

We (3 ppl)stayed the night at their accomodation during one of their apparently famous “thursday curry nights”. The curry was great however the service was rude. The lady owner hurriedly led us to our seats, only to snap several times “not there” as she pointed out reserved tables. At our table, we were told “sit there” and had 2 different menus thrown onto our table. None of the menus indicated their normal meals, and upon asking for a copy, she scoffed and threw a third menu in our general direction and walked away. Her husband seemed more polite and indicated that they had larger tables to tend to, upon delivering our entree 45 mins late. Our dining there felt very inconvenient for them, though we noticed they were very lovely and chatty with larger tables. The buffet curry was delicious however many of the dishes were gone by the time one of our group had recieved his meal (ordered vegetarian from the main menu).

My husband and I happened to stumble on this establishment and were overly thrilled by this find. Found the staff to be helpful and quite professional. Luckily for us we arrived at the Bridge Fishing Lodge just in time to consume a decidable Jamaican influenced buffet; which is something I found out later is the origin of the Lady owner. A great family business, would recommend that if you are in the little town of Turangi to stop by and say hello – and if the time permits, stay and taste Joyce’s homeland culinary delights! All the best Bridge Fishing Lodge
