I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy absolutely delicious food in an interesting, relaxing setting. We ordered and were stoked with the pork belly with portobello mushrooms on ciabatta, fish & chips, chowder, Wonder Woman pizza & a kids meal. All were yummy. There was a really lovely smoky taste in the pizza and nice bit of crispness in the pork belly. Five stars, yeah definitely 🙂
I have eaten many times at The Redoubt, it’s my local, but just wanted to write again and add that the Redoubt continues to please us every time! There staff have changed alot in the last few months but they are always very friendly, and seem to really love their jobs! The food continues to be outstanding. They just recently were awarded a gold merit for there lamb and beef dishes, which I think were very worthy of this distinction.Cheers and go guys!!
Myself and two colleagues were in Te Awamutu for work and were recommended to try the Redoubt. Walking in without booking on a Tuesday night we liked the cosy feel of what seemed a very nice bar, and expected we would get a good selection of bar/cafe meals. We were blown away by the quality, presentation and most of all the taste of what we ate.We all opted for starters and mains – bruschetta and Thai mussels for my colleagues and corn fritters with prawns and rocket. All were so good that there were no offers of sharing!! My prawns had just enough garlic to be flavourful, without over powering the light and fluffy corn fritters (or offending the others in our meeting the next day!). The mussels smelt great, with a tangy spicy Thai coconut broth and the bruschetta looked very appetising (which I guess you expect in an appetiser!!).Mains arrived after just the right amount of time for the starters to settle – pork-belly for me, with a smokey/mustardy sauce on top and a perfect bubble and squeak underneath. The pork was perfect – tasty, crisp outside yet still tender flesh plus a beautifully crackly skin! To my left, what looked like a perfect scotch fillet was being enjoyed tender bite by tender bite while to my right the Miss Piggy pizza (pork, bacon etc and very stringy cheese!) was being heartily devoured. Deserts were ordered – not because we needed them, but because we simply had to keep tasting the fantastic food that was coming out of this kitchen! My cheesecake was superb, with the addition of a fresh blackberry sauce and presented with real style (cloud-like spun sugar adding a gossamer touch of sweetness atop the tangy tasty cheesecake!). The creme brulee was declared a champion, being a caramel rather than vanilla custard and the jersey cow also found favour. Our meals were so good that the next night we regretted following another recommendation to visit Fahrenheit (where the ribs were great but the steaks seriously overcooked and the bruschetta unimaginative), so we headed back to Redoubt for desert and again were delighted!Everything was prepared and presented with style and care, the tastes were perfect and the combinations of flavours could not be faulted. I was impressed, when I took the chance to thank the sous chef and kitchenhand, that such great meals came from what appeared to be quite a young team. These folk have certainly turned some great experience and real talent into excellent meals. We will be back for more next time we are in Te Awamutu. Thanks
