Stopped over for lunch at a “pub” to pleasantly be invited into a classy British Pub. The ambience is overwhelming and takes you back in the Victorian era. Wall hangings, photos, treasured possessions on the wall are unique. The pub offers range of drinks and standard food menu of continental recipes. We tried the seafood basket which was great.
HUGE portions, be warned! We ordered cheesy garlic bread for starter and it was amazing and crispy. The roast was very good and filling. The only negative comment is that the coleslaw contained blue cheese and that is not my taste. The service is good and very friendly.
very nice food, lovely staff, however cheeky. Didn’t order garlic bread however was served some, waitress apologised, were charged, didn’t make a fuss about it just thought it was cheeky.
Not great at all I’m afraid. Food was average, with a simple menu. I can get better burgers from fish and chip shops to be honest. The roast that my family ate had tough yorkshire pudding, and cold mash and veggies. Also, the building seemed to be a bit neglected, with decorations dusty and curtains dirty and hanging off hooks, and bits of blue tac on the walls. Also, light fittings were broken, and there was a strange, unpleasant musty smell around the place. And it was cold. However, the staff were pleasant on the whole, and food came in good time. Still, I wouldn’t go again. Perhaps a bit of a spruce up inside and a review of the menu are in order? Sorry to give a bad review, but hopefully it is helpful to you.
Do you know how you tell if the food is superb? All conversation at the table ceases & munching commences. That is what happened when my dad & I went to lunch today. The atmosphere at the Cock & Bull is wonderful – old England complete with a functioning fireplace! Beautiful dark wood & well-planned decorating. The set up is laid out perfectly – not too many tables – & extremely clean. We ordered two glasses of house wine (which were lovely) & I had the Cajun chicken salad while Dad had the steak, eggs & chips. The delightful lady who took our order was named Aloma. She was friendly & had a good sense of humour. She was also very willing to change my meal slightly by adding steak instead of chicken, but I decided not to bother the chef with it. We didn’t wait long at all & our beautiful meals arrived served to us by a delightful gentleman named Kiyo. He didn’t hang around & watch us eat – rather he checked up on us once & let my dad & I enjoy our meal in peace. We sat in silence as the food was FANTASTIC & we couldn’t stop eating! Excellently priced – you get what you pay for! I took pictures & we stuffed ourselves. Upon leaving, we were invited back & thanked for eating there. What a lovely lunch! Note: I watched Aloma set out a beer on an empty table while we were deciding what table to sit at. A while later, she placed a huge plate of fish & chips next to the beer & yet no one was there! Minutes later, an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair entered the building & wheeled to his private table to promptly eat. Aloma had guessed his arrival & got it all ready for him. Perhaps he does this every day but what foresight! What caring! Will definitely return.
