On our first visit to Pauanui, we dined at the Cedar Grill, cafe and bar. Beautiful setting, wonderful views, great service, friendly hosts and we really enjoyed our meals. They were beautifully cooked, tasty and we loved it.
After visiting all of the main eatery’s in Pauanui I was so glad to come across Cedar Grill. The hosts were lovely and friendly, the setting was so peaceful and the food was wonderful. Just like a homecooked meal!I had the Pumpkin Soup which was so fresh and wholesome along with a special green salad that they made up specially on request. My partner had the chicken, brie and bacon and loved it.All in all a great, homey experience – definitely will head back there again.
Despite the lovely setting we experienced an appalling meal at this restaurant. The menu offered nothing interesting, though some very strange items – toasties with dips, Indian platter, chicken breast with Brie and bacon (last seen in the 1980’s). Also shepherds pie and lamb shanks, despite it being a summers evening. We tried to opt for something safe but, other than one satisfactory steak, the meal was ghastly. The crumbed fish undoubtedly frozen, the chicken predictably dry and the vegetables (also frozen) were barely recognizable. This restaurant is close to a bustling holiday resort so should be a busy, popular spot yet in the time we were there, there were only 3 other tables full – though the owner reported it was a busy night. Clearly anyone in the know wisely avoids The Cedar Grill.
OMG what has happened to this placethe chef must have left the website is one mega lieFood – Indian platter from a box one would say shore marinaserved with sweet chill and what they called hollandaise saucePumpkin soup well it was on its way to turning into vinegar steak – mmmm ummm gross! what they would call vegetables I would call frozen mushy crap, they came out and looked grey watery and the potatoes were deep fried also came with a salad well what they called a salad, green leafs were slimy with grey carrot, looks like they had served up food scraps for a rabbit Chicken wrapped in bacon was good but it was served with frozen vegetables as wellthe lamb shank was good but again served with a frozen vegetable which just wrecked itmmm all for a nice $200 dollarsi would think you would get better eating at a missionthe owner was so busy running around we could not stop laughing about how bad the food wasI would normally walk out with food like this but it was so bad it was funny and we are still laughing about it todayit is a complete miss guys spend your money where you can eat the foodthese poor people should go back to retirement!
We were recently visiting rellies in Pauanui and chanced upon the Cedar Bar.What a great surprise to find talent of obvious international flair in such a hard to find niche.The food was fantastic and ohhhh the cocktails!!Well done.
