Beautiful location, really nice ambience. Sorry to say we were pretty disappointed with the food though. The fruit flan tasted mostly of apple, it really needed some spices. The savoury muffin weirdly had mint in it and the butter was too hard to spread. The Thai salad was a mixture of hot and cold, and was plain smoked chicken and udon, did not enjoy, in fact we each had one bit then had no more. Lovely staff, who gave us a slice of Hummingbird cake to take away, but we were surprised to find it seemed to have no walnuts, pineapple, or banana in it, which are the ingredients that define Hummingbird cake. The cafe itself was beautiful, and the cabinet food looked good. Maybe we just made the wrong choices.

My New Bride and I had our reception at HWC after getting married at Cathedral Cove. Mary and the staff were awesome, we had a completely Vegetarian meal and every single person, meat eater or vegetarian loved the meal. The food was awesome and you will be blown away by the setting. There is plenty of Kiwiana, and a very peaceful atmosphere. The staff is wonderful and the band provided was awesome. I would recommend HWC to anyone looking to go there!Craig Davidson.A Kiwi living in the US.
