We went to this restaurant on a recent trip to Thames. It was delightful, lovely food, clean, nice and cool and very friendly staff. We can recommend it and will definitely go again when visiting Thames.
Decided one day to venture here with my two children (3 & 1).Staff were lovely & entertained the girls & had them giggling. Had special plastic bowls & cups for them also. We ate from the lunch special – everything $10 & were not disappointed. I will be bringing my family & friends here to eat often. The service was great & the food was tasty. Well done
This restaurant is clean, welcoming and on a hot night, the ceiling fans made it nice and cool. Straight away the atmosphere was friendly. We barely waited ten minutes to be served. My chicken pad thai was very good value, a generous plateful, as were my dining companion’s. We were served cold water throughout the evening. The dessert was tasty, again amazing value and generously portioned (glad I shared it.) The only thing that stopped me putting five stars was the slight heat of spices I tasted in the pad thai, which was unusual. Would return again, for sure.
I am in love with Thai food and have been to several amazing thai resturants in Auckland. I dinned here as I was in thames for my birthday and there wasnt many resturants to choose from. I hate to be so negative but this was horrible in comparison to the proper thai resturants I’ve been to. Our starters were okay, but the mains were far from. I ordered a chicken dish and the meat was extremly dry and tasted boiled. The sauce looked and tasted like it was out of a gravy mix. There was so much meat and hardly any vegetables and it was the same for the other people I was dinning with. Although the service was very good and the prices were resonable, I was very dissapointed.
I’m so consistently impressed with this restaurant that I just had to help put the word out. I’ve lived in Thames for 29 years, and have seen plenty of restaurants come and go in this town due to miss management or a gradual decline in service or food quality. But the Nakongtong has been a pleasant exception. It did close for a few years due to the elderly woman owner moving on (not dying, just selling up), but the new owners brought it back with a vengeance, making it the busiest restaurant in town. They are very friendly and laid back, not to mention hard case. And of course my hat goes off to the chief, the food is always top notch, I’ve never had a meal I wasn’t happy with.If you ever stop in Thames for a night or two, you need to treat yourself to at least one meal at the Nakontong.
We went to this restaurant over the Auckland anniversary weekend. What joy it is to find such a ‘gem’ in what is a desert for ethnic dining experiences.The customer service was faultless and the food was excellent!
I have been to this restaurant several times, each time with different people. The food and service has been of excellent quality and is also reasonably priced.Always a good choice.
