Well I am no professional but do have a good sense in spotting great food and service. I have visited this place over the years, and most recently last night, to receive care and attention from the moment I walked in the door with my husband. A very busy night meant we were graciously informed of a wait for a meals, which didn’t phase us at all. The atmosphere was lively, happy and warm. The dinner was great but the pudding was delectable, highly recommend the brulee! Very friendly owner and waitress, who in all their busyness made the place seem relaxed and always remembered a smile! Good on ya’z Loose Goose will continue to recommend this place, as do all my work colleagues. : )
Second visit to Loose Goose and last. Had nice morning browsing shops in Tirau, decided to give Cabbage Tree Cafe a miss this time. Ordered flat white and Potato Hash. Friend got tea and the Falafel salad.Went to go to toilet and one of a bunch of rugby idiots was in there down trousers and the door open. Did not appreciate seeing his backside. Back to table. And we waited for quite some time. My coffee arrived and it tasted burnt. Our meals arrived. The Potato Hash was cut up deep fried potatoes, with fried (or sauteed) spinach and tomatoes with a few sesame seeds. I ate most of it as I’d had no breakfast and it was after 1:30pm. But the oil tasted rancid. It was just awful and nothing like what Hash is supposed to be. My friend’s falafels were the dryest she’s every tasted and while there was salad, there was no sauce. Very very dry. Neither of us finished our lunches and as we walked out, we saw other unfinished meals too. Will never go back.
Stopped in on my way through Tirau and I’m so glad we did! It was a lovely experience from the get go, staff were really friendly and the service was excellent. Our drinks and meals arrived promptly and were delicious. I will be recommending the loose goose to family and friends and will defiantly return!
Fantastic food both times we have eaten here. The Loose Goose has some talent in the kitchen and the hospitality from the restaurant owner was fantastic. The quality of the food, price and service has made it a must stop when travelling out of town. Impressed with the quality of food especially considering they have no real competition in town! Recommended.
Stopped off on my way through to Taupo. Lovely sunny garden courtyard was a nice touch in good weather. Excellent coffee that came out quickly (we even got extras to take away). Our meals were quick and the hamburgers were great old fashioned burgers. Had a nice yarn with Bazil the owner, lovely service and a great start to our holiday.
My husband and I were on our way to Taupo from Auckland on a hot day and just wanted a cup of tea. The Loose Goose seemed like a good place to stop, but boy, were we ever wrong. The gentleman ahead of me in the que to order asked the waitress whether they had been busy that day and she said;’No’. So when we waited 35 minutes to be served two cups of tea, it seemed too long. The place was almost empty during our visit. Our tea was served in a chipped teapot with two stained coffee cups to drink out of and sugar in paper baggies(one of my pet hates). All this at $3.50 per cup – no wonder they make you pay when you order, once they have your money, they don’t care less.
Great food, service, coffee and hospitality in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A long time favourite often recommended to others. Thanks Carole, Basil and team!
