Our family group had a mixed experience on our visit last week. The cafe was busy on a weekday afternoon and somewhat understaffed. We were there primarily for cheese, but one of us ordered a large scone with cream and jam which was excellent. The premises seemed reasonably clean. We finally got to taste the cheeses, but the young lady who assisted us was also busy delivering orders to tables so the experience was a little awkward. We tasted all the cheeses and took a particular liking to their creamy blue so we purchased a couple of them. Disappointingly, the next evening at home we opened the cheese to eat only to find it was nothing like the one we tasted. It was a different colour, texture and taste. More yellow and bitter, not at all smooth. Either the blue we tasted was a totally different cheese, or they have major quality control issues with product consistency. Buyer beware.
Three of us stopped today on our way to Auckland. YUM YUM YUM. I had the cheese and potato dumplings, my daughter had the vege and cheese soup. Very friendly people, lovely food. Will definitely be stopping again when next heading up North. Only teeny tiny growl. Cheese scone advertised with butter and relish for $4.70 – they are huge scones. Got one to take in the car – no butter. Didn’t expect the relish but thought I would have still got some butter. My problem though, should have checked. Will still be coming back though.
Stopped in on our way through to Taupo, as soon as we walked in we were kindly greeted by the excellent staff. The atmosphere was terrific with a lot of well known kiwi songs playing, I ordered the salmon eggs Bene, well presented eggs were perfectly cooked. Would love the recipie for the glazed salmon! Was to die for. My partner ordered the big breakfast, very good selection on the plate and was good value for money. Our meals came quickly and efficiently even tho it was 12.30 on a Sunday! 🙂 big cheese selection in the deli, some good specials in the cabinet. Definitely a a++++++ on my behalf ! Well done Kaimai !!! Highly recommend.
