Lunch. Blackboard menu, (+a la carte) rustic setting, simple ambiance. Superb food: beautifully presented, fresh flavours, attentive and unobtrusive service. Carafe house wine as good as your average bottle. Excellent value. Totally unexpected and definitely recommended! Don’t be put off by the drive in.
Think ‘French Cafe’ food with a relaxed atmosphere and less pretentious clientele. We tried 4 mains between us over 2 evenings and 3 desserts and entrees. Great wine too. There’s certainly nothing to match their food in Tauranga. Maybe I need to get out more ? Keep it up guys. ‘O’ for awesome !
We have dined here several times and also held our wedding reception here. With regards to the meals here we were generally impressed. Food was tasty and the setting great. We did have one incident with a staff member giving our meal to the wrong people but otherwise no complaints. For our reception, we were very impressed. Emma worked along side us leading up to the wedding and we were left with very positive feedback from our guests. She was great at going the extra mile, even purchasing extra pieces of equipment that saved us money. The service ran like clockwork and food was very good (60+ guests). Accordingly this place holds special memories and we will be sure to return.
Went for my birthday lunch today. Sharing platter was very good. The Sangria was okay. My chicken had a slimy skin even though it was oven roasted. The meat was undercooked. My partners salmon he said was delicious. My daughter had the meat lovers pizza which she said was not gourmet but too oily/cheesy. My partner ate part of mine . He told the waitress that it was undercooked. She tried to make excuses. By the time we went to pay the bill she reconsidered and we did not pay for the dish. A nice gesture.
Went here today for lunch as part of a group, it was ridiculously stuffy inside and there were flies everywhere a simple ceiling fan would fix this straight away, the food was nice but extremely over priced (even if this was an upmarket Auckland restaurant) and it took well over an hour after ordering before our lunch arrived not impressed. The staff seemed in experienced and unable to cope with a table bigger than 4.A real pity as this place has an amazing setting and could be really something special instead it left me feeling ripped off and unimpressed 🙁
Had the pleasure of lunching with family at The Falls Retreat, Re’TREAT’ being the operative word. There where seven in our party, at the end of our meal the only comments heard were positive. Between us we had a variety of choices from the menu, everybody stating their meal was superb, and looking for reasons to travel from Tauranga, and further afield, to return. The service was excellent, neither was it intrusive nor neglectful.Only one point to note – save room for dessert – the Molten Chocolate was ‘to die for’!
This was my 3rd visit in a month – once with family, twice with friends. A great setting, excellent cuisine, staff & service the best!!
