Honestly this place was a joke.We have just arrived home and couldn’t wait to write a review.Absolutely appalling! They apologised about the state of the restaurant as they had just done alterations which had only just finished. They had been let down by tradesman! If that was the case they should have been closed. The Taupo fire Brigade were booked in ,so they had to open.Seafood chowder full of mussels, pork belly full of fat.Awful.I left 90/. Of my chowder and my son left heaps of the fatty pork.Came to pay the bill, and had to wait to pay.No eft pos running, then had to find the gear to do a manual transaction.A shocking, unprofessional experience.Wouldn’t go again if it was free!

We arrived without a booking, and were made welcome while a table was prepared. Staff very friendly, nice atmosphere. The meals (salmon and schnitzel) were very nice. Discovered they hadn’t charged us for drinks, so I went back the next day to settle my conscience! We’ll return next time in Taupo!p.s. There was rugby on the TV in the bar, but being Brumbies v Cheetahs it wasn’t being wildly cheered!

Schnitzel is always excellent! The fish & home-made chips is great and hocks is lovely and tender also. The service is always prompt and friendly. We would recommend the place highly. We have taken many visitors from the States to the Mole & Chicken and they loved it, too. It’s good value for the money.

A great place for locals and out of town alike. Very friendly staff. Because it is not in the CBD it is somehow more relaxing. The mains are fresh with good variety and generous

Simply put, this was the best meal I can remember eating at a restaurant. Fish was so well cooked, as were the vegetables, all 6 of them !. And the price was very reasonable. Staff Awesome. Don’t change a thing.

Very disappointing meal we had on Saturday night. Very greasy, stodgy yukky food and obviously chose the wrong dishes. Shame as this place was recommended to us but we will not be recommending to others. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and they ensured the kids had lots to do with picture colouring.

We had made a reservation a few days previous to our arrival as we are from out of town. When we arrived at the stated time there was no table available and we were asked to have a drink in the bar. The bar was full of people waiting to watch the rugby and there were no seats. We stood in the doorway between the bar and the restaurant (there was nowhere else) but bar staff were busy so we didn’t get the chance to order a drink. However within a few minutes a table was available. The food was excellent but our meal was spoiled by the fact that we couldn’t have a conversation for the first half hour due to the shouting and yelling of the rugby supporters in the bar. We noticed that there were seats in a covered area outside and in areas away from the bar.As we had booked in advance I feel we should have had a better table than one adjacent to a bar full of rugby supporters. If we had just wandered in off the street we would have been satisfied with the table we were shown to. Obviously the All Blacks didn’t play as well as expected because the noise did quieten down after a while. Make sure there is no sporting event being shown if you want to dine in comfort.
