We stopped in Featherston to have a look around and stretch the legs. It was about lunchtime so we grabbed a bite at Everest, as recommended by one of the store owners.Nice space with a fantastic looking pizza oven. Menu had some good options. We had to try a pizza and decided on the Asian beef salad.Friendly staff, quick service and meals arrived promptly. Both dishes looked lovely. Good presentation. The beef salad was fresh and flavourosme. The beef was cooked perfectly and seasoned well, with tender pieces. Although we each got one gristly piece which was unfortunate. The pizza was a let-down. Slightly under-cooked and the tomato and basil flavours weren’t present, just the slightly salty mozzarella. Could have been a fantastic meal if these aspects had been better.Overall it was nice, but average.
We often pop over from Maymorn to have breakfast at the Everest.Great food and ambiance – well supported by the locals. We also always leave with a few loaves of fresh bread. The fig and nut is a must – if they still make it.After breakfast, a pop in at the cheese and the antique shops next door is also a treat.
Everest Cafe has outstanding food and service, I find comments relating to how great cornucopia was interesting as when it first opened was very good, but sadly after the down-sizing of the shop and when the then owners put their focus in Martinborough, service and quality suffered. As for Peter I’s comments, this is a case of double standards and bias, this gentleman, when owned and run Cafe Trends, used to buy in inferior or cheaper fish and market it as something completely different, and also used a lot of cheaper and poor ingredients on his menu, he openly admits being friendly with Tony, thus this all seems quite biased and motivated by personal means.Everest Cafe has really lifted their game and the food is very good, tasty and the coffee is fine also. These new owners took over after this business was left floundering, and previous patrons were neglected. I’ve been a frequent user of this cafe since it first opened under the Cornucopia guise. I’ve eaten at a lot of fine eateries and this ranks as a very good establishment, where food and customer service is paramount for a most enjoyable casual or dining experience.
I loved Cornucopia – it was smart and chic with the best coffee and slices – we stopped at the cafe only to find that it had been taken over and changed its name – why Everest in the middle of the Wairarapa?? The coffee when it came after a long long wait was stil good and the slices were too but it has lost its chic-ness and quality – there is stuff everywhere like bottled drink machines – it used to be quality and upmarket – now it is a cafe like any other which is a great pity. The time to make coffee was too long and my coffee came long before my husband’s and we had eaten our slices by then. Sad
