I was really disappointed with the service here – a couple of times. I was waiting to add to my order – 3 staff members behind the counter and I was totally ignored. I gave up in the end. Also really disappointed with the sandwich I had. Meh.
Really enjoyed our pre-theatre meal at this eatery. The service and meal were both excellent, with our waiter also organising our tickets and seats for the movie we wished to view.
As a regular cafe goer, I have consistently been disappointed with the quality of service and wait on food here. It’s a regular occurrence for the baristas and chef to get orders mixed up / wrong and for us to have to chase missing food orders. That’s despite the fact I have been a regular and always order the same thing. When the food comes, it can be average or, in some cases recently, poor. It’s pretty common not to have a table wiped or cutlery provided. Water is best got yourself, as the wait is either lengthy or infinite. When asked for, cracked pepper appears, but grudgingly. When I have given feedback, the waiting staff don’t seem interested or apologetic. I won’t be coming here again. There are several friendlier places in Island Bay with far better service, coffee and meals.
Oh dear. Offers more but does disappoint. $130 for 3 mains, 1 soup, 1 starter, olives and 3 gellatoes – not great value. Menu is dumbing down. Not sure what the warm olives were soaking in, more like baby oil than olive oil, burgers weren’t that impressive for over $20, and not that warm. Carbonara looked and tasted like it was done on the cheap, pancetta was more like chunky, chewy bacon ends, no parmesan flavour and not that eggy creamy consistency. Service was very pleasant though. Island Bay punters will reward you if you do better value for money.
Stopped in today for a couple of coffees and to check out the movie times and prices. The cafe is really well presented and the staff are friendly. I had to give my order three times to the waitress because she kinda wasnt paying attention but the barrista was nice and the coffees were ready in a flash and were great tasting and pretty strong. Mmmmm. Will be back to try something else and for a coffee in the future. Really nice looking spot to sit and enjoy a bite or ice cream and watch the world go by.
I love this place. The food is top knotch and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Empire as a place to have lunch/dinner or pop in for some gelato.
