We come here every week without fail. Service is friendly and the range of counter goods are like something from 1985 which is what I love about it. Coffee is average but not bad, just not great. Highlights of here include potato top savouries, mini pies, and a very tasty mince & cheese pie. They’ve recently been tidying up the place and moved the counter forward and it looks 100% better and brighter. Good stuff. An Island Bay staple.

The only thing that I was satisfied with was the quite friendly service.Just can’t understand the vegetarian pie it’s sort of jelly stuff put in to try to fill it up. I really don’t know how can you make so much juice with just a tiny bit carrots. And by the way the pastry didn’t cook properly it made me feel like indigestion.
The best home made potato top pie in Wellington. Have been here numerous times and will continue too. Such kind and friendly owners as well!!!
I had a meeting in Brooklyn and arrived early so I could grab lunch first. Not familiar with Brooklyn I didn’t realise that everywhere is closed Monday lunchtime. I had time so I drove to Island Bay instead. Time did start to become short so I decided to grab a quick bite instead of a sit in meal – so Island Bay Bakery it was. I was pleasantly surprised by the items on offer. They all looked really fresh and tasty. Good options to choose from too. I got a chicken and avocado sandwich ($3.90) and a mini mince savory ($1.50).The sandwich was superb. Soft fresh bread with tasty chicken filling and perfectly ripe avocado. The avo was in chunks, not mashed, which definitely tasted better.I wish I’d stopped there. The mince savory wasn’t good. The pastry was nice but the filling wasn’t. Light on actual mince, the filling was mostly gelatinous gravy. I didn’t enjoy it at all. A real shame.Overall, I think this is a good bakery, and the pie was just a glitch. Would visit again if I was in the area but I’d avoid the mini savories.
The food here is your standard bakery food. Good prices and a wide range of sandwiches, cakes, slices and pies. I especially love the fact that they have a vegetarian pie which is really tasty. The hours are good for picking up an after work treat. The staff are also really nice and the have cheap and good tasting milkshakes. jenjaroo.com
