Was excited to try this place when we first moved to the area, we love a good chinese takeout. I don’t particularly fancy smorgasbord so we ordered off the menu. Sweet and Sour Pork, Chicken Chow Mein, Combination Fried Rice, Brisket Noodle Soup and Wonton Soup. It was all a bit underwhelming to say the least not one dish really jumped out at me. Not a lot of flavour it’s fair to say we have only been here once in the past 2 years.
I’ve been walking past Joe’s for a couple of years. Always been intrigued to try but assumed it wouldn’t be that great. I also wondered how fresh the food would be. Although, they do seem to replenish the trays regularly.You don’t know until you try, so I went in for a Chinese one night. I like how you can choose several options to go in your tray in this kind of eatery – which is one of the reasons I wanted to try it – to get some variety. I find it strange how everything from the Chinese takeaway comes on/with rice. So you end up buying only two dished and have loads of rice you don’t eat. I prefer ordering a number of smaller dishes and then, if I want, ordering ONE rice.I tried the small $10.00 tray. I got the spicy noodles, Sweet and sour pork, Beef in black bean sauce and the chicken and vegetables.Friendly staff and they put a good amount in the tray.The sweet and sour pork was a bit chewy, the spicy noodles were a bit stodgy and salty. The chicken chow mein and beef and black bean were fresher tasting and quite garlicy but the veg was firm.All up I felt it was average – at best.
Was a fan of the smorgasboard until I was put off by the rancid fish bites I received. Also the sweet and sour pork is all sweet and not much else.Mixed results, and they really need to start being more cautious serving food that’s turned bad as never a good look
i love the food!hey, you have to try this, go to it, you’ll like, the staff is great and the menu is everlasting greatness. fast, ferash, tasty. you have too at least try the spring rolls
I’m a regular customer at Joes, my favourite Chinese takeaway in Wellington, their smorgasbord is definitely the best in Wellington. Heaps of choices, always fresh and delicious!The staff are always friendly and helpful and their service is always fast. I love going there on a day when I am too tired to prepare my own meals because I can normally have a meal ready in 5 minutes. My favourites are their orange beef, chicken wings, sweet and sour pork and fried noodles. They have an extensive menu including burgers, fish and chips, fried chicken and of course, lots of chinese food!
I have had many takeaways and dine ins at Joes I’ve always found the staff very friendly and helpfull and the meals very good and appertising. The smorgasbord has so many dishes, I’ve never seen so many before and all so very fresh and tastyI know at least two restaurant owners who get a meal from Joes on the way home
Their Wonton Soup is the best ever!!Good variety of take away here. Chinese buffet, fried chicken and fish n chips. Very big takeaway shop in ideal location. Plenty of parking in the vicinity. There is seating, but it’s more a takeaway setting rather than a restaurant. Have never been disappointed with my order. Probably one of the most easiest accessible Chinese takeaway places in Johnsonville central.
