Always fantastic and knowledgable service, a nice place for French cheeses and breads. I buy my sponge biscuits for tiramisu, my 00 flour for pasta and grab a hot chocolate on the way out. If your lucky you can grab a bag of free coffee grounds, great for the garden, great range of goodies for the home food enthusiast.
Karori is not well served for supermarkets. Despite two, competing, chains at the corner of karori road and parkvale road the range of produce sold is, at times – most of the time – depressing. If Thorndon or Chaffers New World were closer, so would be civilisation. However there are two bright spots in the Karori supermarket complex – Gamboni’s deli and an Asian independent fruit and vegetable seller. Both should be cherished. Gambonis deli isn’t an Ontrays but it is the nearest thing to civilised food this side of Moore Wilsons. The range isn’t huge but for Mediterranean dried, canned or bottled food it’s the best thing we have. He has a good range of cheeses, pates and home made packaged meals. And yes he sells coffee but he’s not a Memphis belle 24/7 barista – he’s a nice guy who is passionate about food, a good guide and a godsend in a culinary dessert. Support him.
