Stumbled upon this place by accident and have made it a priority to head back ever since. I am not Greek so I canny vouch for its authenticity, but I can tell you it is the only place in Wellington I have heard multiple parties speaking Greek to one another, so this has to be a good sign. I will be back many times and bring friends.
Came in to try the Souvlaki weekend special, always see the sign, live close so thought no harm in trying. I was surprised to see that the souvlaki was only chicken because I expected a lamb option. We asked how it works and what it came with which was a couple of sticks of grilled souvlaki, salad, tzaziki and grilled pita bread. I ordered one and thought it was a touch pricey for $15 for a one person lunch to be honest. I tried each part, it was all very tasty and seemed good quality so I think that is where the money went, and fair enough, I would rather pay for quality and enjoy it! The Souvlaki was full of spices and citrus flavours, delightful!.Service was excellent, staff there were lovely and helpful – I would recommend this spot for others to try, the desserts and pastries looked fantastic also and I did spot a couple of gluten free options.
Love this place. We come regularly for the souvlaki on Saturdays. It is always fresh and delicious and amazing value. The cakes and pastries are homemade and delicious and the coffee wonderful. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and happy to help. We bought Greek coffee this weekend and the owner showed us exactly how to make it. They also have a be fridge with wonderful treats – we were excited to buy big fat pitta bread. An absolutely hidden gem!
Absolutely adored the lunch I had at A Taste of Greece. The pastries were perfect (I had a leek and feta pastry, and one filled with semolina custard), the Greek salad was deliciously balanced and fresh – the feta and oil combo was luxurious – and the coffee was the kind of coffee that’s soothing rather than wiring you up. So tasty! And lovely, friendly service too. The dolmades were especially good, don’t forget to try them.
This place reminds me of Melbourne when I used to go and get my sweet treats from the market. The hostess is absolutely lovely and makes wonderful pastries. I cannot wait to pop back in to try some of her savoury items.Had my first Greek coffee and its so diifferent to what I’m used to. For those who havent tried it, expect a very earthy flavour. The way its prepared is cool to see and the grinds that sit at the bottom of your cup (you dont drink those) makes it all the more interesting! Google tells me that you can read the grinds like you would tea leaves by inverting the cup over your saucer when you’ve finished drinking!
Nice café out in Kilbirnie, cosy, colourful, Helen, the owner is friendly and a great chef. Food is authentic, fresh, attractive and tastes great. Lots of other seasonal treats as well for Greek Easter, Christmas, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, New Year and other days. Check out the Greek merchandise; table clothes, jewellery, cards, food . Check out David Burton’s review on Stuff.
Great Food. Authentic Greek. Friendly staff. Highly recommended. Must be one of the only Greek cafe in Wellington. A must try are the sweets and savories.
