One of the few places on Courtenay Place where you can grab a drink without the clubbing/town vibe, making it one of my favourite bars in Wellington. The staff are really friendly and clearly know many of their customers. There is an excellent outdoor area including a gazebo. Owners are lovely, drinks are cheap, and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. They also offer Welsh whisky and cider, and a very well priced Sunday roast!

I really enjoyed the evening here until they served me a taster of beer with an earwig in it. Then refused to accept that it was their earwig. I now question the rest of their hygiene. Gross!
Love that place. Going there back and forth since I was introduced to it. You can get some quiet nights by the fire with your friends or just some random people as everybody is generally opened, welcoming and friendly. But you can also get packed nights especially if rugby is on.Special mention to Noel, the amazing cook, he always brings plenty of delicious food with a big smile on his face which makes the food even nicer 🙂 Great food, nice beers, friendly & lovely staff, good music, unusual decor, charming backyard terrace.. None of my numerous nights at the Welsh has ever disappointed me !
What an amazing place.. One of if not the best pub in wellington.. Great atmosphere with friendly staff and a building with a whole lot of history.. Food selection is simple but tasty and reasonably priced with the chance to wash it all down with a welsh whiskey or two
The best bar in Wellington! It is so intimate and friendly, you will always receive a warm welcome. They have a great selection of beers, wine and cider including Welsh products. The Welsh cider is a must try. They have recently started doing a new range of meals. I tried the club sandwich the other day and it was delicious and great value for $10 with fries. I will definately be back for a drink and to try more stuff off the menu.
Love this bar!! This is one of my top picks for bars Wellington because the decor is so charismatic and fun, the vibe is always friendly – especially when the owner Mike is around to have a laugh with. We always take people from out of town to the Welsh bar and it’s a hit every time! There is everything you could want, outdoor area, pool table, piano, even couches! The building is really unique too and I always end up taking photos of the place. If you haven’t been you should really check it out!
