Staff were great yet food wasn’t. Disappointed with waiting times in between sittings so take note for whoever takes bookings. This is my second time this month and the food was dissatisfying both times. Will not be returning
Great atmosphere and always friendly staff. On a busy night, chances are hot drinks maybe served colder than anticipated – but the ever so friendly staff really make up for it. Another set back is waiting for your table 8 mins before you booked due to being a busy nite – this is an inconvenience when bookings could be booked far apart to not let customers wait. Food isn’t worth ordering but a cold drink is
Three of us had a meal , , not very good value for the price, judging from my own dish I ordered, battered fish, only glad I ordered the large meal as the piece of fish was about 5inches by 3inches,x2, , in the small meal there was only one piece,,and nothing wonderful, feel ripped off,,,
Few problems with the food:All entrees were too good I had to over eatSteak was cooked perfectly I almost licked the plateBelt had to be loosened as the meals were a good sizeI would definitely recommend Speights Ale house to anyone that asks, best restaurant food Ive had in a while.Customer service was excellent too
One of the best steaks in town marinated with beer for a day or 2 and they do a really good medium rare! Good family friendly environment for Sunday night casual dining, highly recommended, service is excellent! Friendly welcoming and accomodating
Me & my partner were completely blown away by their entrees, the jalapeño cheese balls & arrowtown meatballs were sublime. Service was very fast considering how busy it was. My partner ordered the scotch fillet steak & enjoyed it & I ordered the calamari salad which was pretty good.
I have dined at Speights on 2 occasions recently and have had a positive experience both times. It has been some years since I have dined here but it did not disappoint. We were seated promptly even though we were early and the waitress very quickly explained the specials of the day before taking our drinks order. I chose the Bendigo steak and my fellow diners chose lambs fry and the special of groper. Meals arrived and we tucked in to a scrumptious dinner. The steak was cooked medium rare to my liking served with potato gratin and broccolini. The other meals were pronounced as being equally delicious. For dessert I chose the Sticky Date pudding served with a brandy snap, my friends ordered cheesecake and an ice cream sundae. All in all we enjoyed the Speights experience even if it was a little noisy with the increase of patrons. I would happily dine here again.
