(Courtenay Central store) I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo as a combo, the meal was absolutely tasteless and dry. The chicken was like rubber, and the naan bread stale. The ‘Chef’ had microwave the meal as it was incredibly hot. I ended up burning my lip and making a trip across the road to the pharmacy. Terrible food, service and venue.
Starters were ok. Samosa chat was decent, Malai tikka was served in some sort of buttery creamy sauce. 2 curries ordered – malai kofta sauce was sickly sweet (koftas were good) and lamb pasanda was horrible. It looked below average and tasted artificially flavored with what seemed like copious amounts of dried mint?Peshawari naan should have nuts and dried fruit in it (by their menu description) but ours only had desiccated coconut and few raisins with artificial orange food coloring. Cheap look for a cheap shortcut. Not at all impressed. Probably not returning in a hurry.Has the management/ownership changed? Inexperienced chef?
We had Indo Chinese and it was rubbish! The whole dish bathed in some sort of a heavily good colored sauce! And they don’t come with rice even though it is essentially a curry. Never again
Absolutely appalled with the service we received at Masala Lounge this evening. We came home after picking up a takeaway meal to find we were missing part of our order. When we called them up to let them know, the man on the phone was incredibly rude and denied that we had received the incorrect order, he rudely responded “I will let the chef know” After receiving no solution to the problem over the phone, we decided to drive back down to the restaurant and ask If we could exchange what they had given us for what we had actually ordered which is what was advertised on their website. The man behind the counter proceeded to ask us to pay again, which we refused to do, as a result, he asked us to return the food!! We ended up leaving the restaurant feeling deflated as they could not rectify the situation . We were also extremely dissatisfied with the meal as this was not what we had ordered. We will never be returning to this restaurant or recommending it to anyone. An absolutely awful experience and an extreme waste of time and money 🙁
Ordered their fantastic family deal for $49.90 – 3 curries, 3 rice, 3 plain naans and 3 popadoms.Ordered a chicken pasanda, a lamb afghani and a lamb biryani as the curries.Good portion size with a decent amount of meat. Asked for kiwi hot and medium and Masala Lounge definitely listens to your requests. Spice level was perfect. The two curries were fantastic. You could taste the mint flavours coming through in the Pasanda and the Afghani was creamy and delicious. This was a real treat as many Indian restaurants out there have a same generic base for their curries so every thing starts tasting the same but at Masala Lounge you can definitely distinguish the flavouring between the dishes. The lamb biryani was nice but it was probably the dish that stopped Masala Lounge from getting a 5. The lamb was a bit dry and in my opinion lacked a bit of flavour. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination but I have had better.Service was fantastic. Lady on the counter who answered the phone was very well mannered and spoke good English and was very easy to understand. She gave us a time frame of 20 mins and when we arrived after about 17 mins she was very apologetic that the food was not ready (was ready about 5 mins after I arrived).I will definitely be returning to try more of their menu and think that this may be my go to Indian Takeaway place in Porirua from now on.They do have dine in area as well which I have to say was extremely clean but there was no one in there.Food 8.5/10Service 10/10Value 9/10Would I return: Definitely**UPDATE** – Tried the Lamb Madras, Chicken Jalfrezi and the Lamb Vindaloo tonight. Madras was a little on the sweet side, still creamy and nice though. Jalfrezi was alright, not really anything special, just overcooked capsicum and tomato in a thick sauce (will probably give this a miss next time) and the Vindaloo was really nice with the sharpness of the vinegar coming through the spicy sauce (will definitely be having this again).
