Had massaman beef curry which had a lovely flavor but sadly not much meat. Basically 5 pieces of beef and the fifth one was a tough tendon-like consistency. Two cubed potatoes in the same curry. The Isaan Lamb Laab was way salty. I ate it with white rice and still too salty. The fried fish topped with chili sauce was cooked well. Evrryone enjoyed it. Appetizer fish cakes were nicely seasoned with kaffir lime leaves. Best thing about the meal was dessert. Sticky rice with coconut ice cream was very nice and reminded us of home (We are east Asians). Likely will not be back having a mixed bag of a meal.
We thought we would like to try this restaurant out again tonight on the way home from Kenepuru hospital. We haven’t eaten here for a few years. But feeling hungry we popped in and ordered a chicken fried rice and a Panang chicken curry. All the food was yummy until I extracted this really long black hair from my mouth. That was very disgusting I thought. It was from the chicken fried rice dish which I had ordered.I complained to the waitress and I said it could be from one the chefs in the kitchen. She returned shortly to say that all the chefs were wearing hats but I doubted this. Then she said that the hair probably came from the one of the waitresses. I thought that she was probably defending the chefs in the kitchen, as all the waitresses were immaculately groomed.Anyway she said I didn’t have to pay for the chicken fried rice dish which was nice. But I still would have prefer not to have that shockingly long black hair in my chicken fried rice!!
Very clean place, Staff where good at the start but then waited a long time to be served and never really made eye contact with us so was hard to grab attention. They don’t give you much meat and the meat you get isn’t the nicest, got some of our orders mixed up. They also only have one toilet so you can be waiting in a line for a long time to go.
The staff were friendly but unfortunately that’s where it stops. Under staffed waited for ages, no one bought water, had to go ask , took ages to come take order and then food took ages. Food was over cooked. Got the satay chicken skewered and the chicken was a dry as a bone. Main was a ginger fish dish but couldn’t taste ginger at all , dry fish , small portions , no flavor and because of that had to ask for chilly and soy sauce and then got charged a dollar each for tiny bit. Do yourself a favor and give this one a miss there are so many good thai restaurants in Wellington .
Went to Thai Country Cafe with a large group of friends on a Tuesday evening. They catered very well for roughly 12 of us by putting tables together to make one large table.Waitress was very friendly. Really clever system that they have when they have a large group with everyone paying separately. Instead of everyone trying to remember what they had at the end of the night when the bill comes, the waitress writes down what every seat ordered then you just point to what seat you sat in.My wife and I ordered a chicken Pad Thai (mild) and a Pork Panang Curry (kiwi hot). The Pad Thai was really nice with a perfect mix of chicken, noodles and sauces/garnish. The Pork Panang Curry was a little on the sweet side but still quite tasty with a good amount of meat. The one part of the night which was very frustrating was the rice. Rice was included with all mains but the waitress said she would just put rice out for the table. She ended up giving us 4 little bowls to share among 12 of us (each bowl was only enough for one person). As you can imagine the rice went extremely quickly and it took a very long time for it to be replenished so much so the curries got cold and people started to just eat them like a soup.Apart from this hiccup it was a very good night with decent food at a reasonable (ish) prices with great company.Food – 8/10Service – 6/10Price – 6/10Ambiance – 7/10Would I return – Most Probably
Lovely food, fast service. Really enjoyed coming away feeling fed but not stuffed because the food is fresh and vege-ful. One water glass had a very clear lip mark on it, so not 5/5 this time. Just check the glassware as it goes on the table please.
We have been here many times and the food is always great. Service is fast but not a personal service but for the price I’m not complaining!!
