I’m so sorry owners and staff but I have to give you guys a weak score of 1.5 and quite honestly this was generous. I am writing this in the hope that you will take note and change things for the better. The decor of the roundabout is actually quite lovely and being a cold evening it was nice to walk in to a warm fire lit place. We arrived and were standing around waiting for someone to greet us for a long time. Once we were shown our seat we sat there for 20 minutes before anyone asked if we would like a drink. The wait staff were very polite but really need to be trained in service properly. A couple of drinks never came which ment we had to go up to the bar to ask where they were. We were a large group of 10 so expected delays but waiting over an hour for a child’s pizza I thought was not acceptable. Once our meals arrived none of them looked nice. They all looked like they had been slapped on to the plate with no care. I ordered 2 entrees and 1 of them was inedible. It was the feta and spinach rolled in pastry. Pastry was burnt. Spinach inside was cold and watery and the feta was no where to be seen. I really shouldn’t have paid for this. Steaks were inconsistent in sizes throughout . Salads undressed. The whole group had stated that they were quite disappointed in their meals and wouldn’t rerurn. I’m hoping the owners see this and up their game. For the prices the food needs to be better quality
Not many places to go in Tawa and this place can have more clients if the owner does business properly. Food can be mediocre and service must be improved. Perhaps they hire many part timers that is fine but put some professionalism to what they do. Nothing really too bad but it is shameful the business doesn’t run in more efficient and better way.
We ate here recently before joining in with their monthly quiz night. The food is nice enough, but in the 3 hours we were there no one came to our table even once to ask if we wanted another drink despite a table of empty glasses. They are missing a great opportunity to make money. At one stage there were 3 staff at the bar and only one was doing anything. Also, after receiving our deserts just before 7pm, one of our party still had his empty plate sitting in front of him at 8.30pm. Quiz night is a lot of fun, but the service needs to pick up if they expect to survive when the new place down the road opens.
For a Saturday lunch time the place was relatively empty, probably because it’s not well-sign-posted and only had two disabled car parks. A shame really because the venue itself is very nice. We had burgers – he the chicken, bacon & avocado, me the beef & cheeseburger. Both came with fries. We shared a dessert special – rum, banana & coconut filo with fresh fruit and vanilla bean icecream. We also had a mocktail each. It was all decidedly average. The staff were friendly and accommodating. It’s a bit of a mission to get to so it’s likely we won’t go back.
The Roundabout a beautifully restored pub. Warm, sunny & palatial with a cracking garden bar in the rear. The garden bar has covered/uncovered sections and is completely enclosed & safe for wee onesThe food is fair to middling, which is to be expected as this is a pub that serves food. I’d certainly go again – a great spot for a pint in Tawa
Lovely staff and great service, but I ordered the tomato, mushroom and chorizo pasta and it was very underwhelming. It tasted like a weak tomato soup and the chorizos were more like cheerios or very fake sausages. The other food was good tho and dessert on the house for me because of my poor main.
