We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at The Grill. We had both breakfast and dinner, both of which were delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked, rare as requested. As well as the Salmon which was medium rare. The wine selection to go with the dinner was quite good, as it matched with both the beef and the salmon. We also had Calamari and a prawn cocktail which had a very good thousand island sauce, I only wish that there had been more!I noticed in other reviews that people had food take a long time to come out. We had dinner on a Friday night at 7pm and had no issues. For the most part, the staff were friendly and attentative(one of the staff seemed new). The decor was very nice. The utensils and wine glasses were impeccably clean.I would definitely recommend going there and look forward to going again.

Have always enjoyed the dinner meals here but after staying at the hotel and going to the grill for breakfast not only was the food terrible, the girl who served us upon entering the grill was not only extremely patronising but just downright rude. Never returning again after this horrible experience

I was looking forward to trying the Grill as I haven’t been since they renovated a while back. When I booked I was told that a large party were expected that evening but if we came early they should be able to accommodate us. I booked for 6.30 and hoped that as they knew a large party was coming they would serve us quickly. We arrived 10 minutes early and the staff already looked under pressure. As other reviewers have noted we were seated next to other diners even though the large dining room was mainly empty. The tables next to us had young children, which was hardly conducive to a romantic meal, but I wasn’t too worried. Our order was taken around 6.30 – we ordered only a main course but said to our waiter we would have a dessert if there was time as we hoped to catch a film after the meal. At 7.10 the waiter apologised for the delay and said our meal would be a further 10 minutes away. At 7.30 we still hadn’t had the meal and so we decided to leave. The waiter was again apologetic and went off to get his supervisor who didn’t appear. I have noticed that another review mentioned being kept waiting with young children. I feel really sorry for the family next to us who were trying to keep their young children entertained, while presumably waiting for their meal. I noticed that they too left with doggy bags as another reviewer had been forced to.What really go me though was that a young couple came in around 7pm and were served their starter within about 10 minutes.

With two young children we picked the earliest dining slot (6pm). We were staying at the hotel overnight and thought we would try the restaurant. Disappointing. We ordered Pan fried chicken, Flounder and from the childrens’ menu sausages and chips for the kids. We didn’t order any entrees so were a little surprised when our main took one and a half hours to come out to us. Our kids meal was bigger than the chicken meal, and the flounder was void of any herbs; with only three tiny shrimps on the plate. The chicken was also quite dry. My husband had a coke to drink, which was watered down and flat, very disappointing. As part of the children’s meal deal they get a dessert, so we had a further half an hour wait for our table to be cleared to ask to make that take away, as by that time the children had had enough time sitting in a restaurant. Our waiter was apologetic about the delay, stating that they were very busy, but with the restaurant only half full, it didn’t seem to stack up.

An exceptional and amazing place. Absolutely loved their dinner menu, food was outstanding, received a complimentary bottle of wine and staff and service was just excellent! They also make breakfast fit for champions!!! Pure elegance in it’s finest form and will definitely be visiting again soon!

We were not staying in house but dined at the grill on Friday the 8/6/2012. The wait staff were great, as they had a large dinner party entering the dining room at the time we arrived they offered to seat us or to have a drink in the bar until the larger party had ordered, we chose the bar option and did not regret it. We relaxed over a couple of drinks while the staff were still attentive to our needs, regularly checking with us as to whether we were ready to go through or not, we ended up ordering and eating our breads and dips in the lounge and the waitress also took our orders for our mains while we were still in the lounge bar. We were shown to our table a few minutes before our meals arrived, which were sublime. I had the lamb which was absolutely gorgeous and the other three in the party all had the 500g steak that they all really enjoyed. The food was lovely and the staff couldn’t have been any more friendly or accommodating. Well done, keep it up.

We had booked to stay at the Solway (pre return of the child from school holidays trip) and had decided beforehand that we would eat at the resident restaurant.Solway has changed a lot since the last time I was there, its been ungraded considerably, which is great because it was a dive previously.Upon checking in we were told to book as they get very busy, only to arrive at the restaurant that evening to find 2 other couples. Hardly brimming to capacity, but based on our earlier experience of the Cafe Solway I wasn’t going to argue with them.We both had the seafood chowder for an entree, and I was impressed. Its has quite a few chunky its of seafood including discovering a whole scallop – which was a pleasant surprise. After being told there was no salmon or lamb, it left few options on the menu, so surprisingly I opted for steak. I prefer my steak pink but not bleeding, but often find its quite often done wrong. The sirloin at The Grill is a nice big piece of steak, but was way overdone. Probably my fault because I asked for well done. But it wasnt just well done, but overdone to the point of being dry. But I do accept my part in that.Other groups and couples came in to dine as we sat and ate. The thing we noticed was that despite the size of the restaurant, which is relatively big, we were all being seated in the same area and relatively close together. Good for the staff I suppose to manage patrons, but it makes it hard to talk about evryone else when you’re sitting so close to them.Overall, I didnt think it was bad. Bonus points for the chowder! Staff were friendly, courteous and quick to help out if needed.
