Bistro 52 is a training restaurant for WelTec’s hospitality students. You have to bear this in mind when you eat here. The service and food won’t be perfect as the students are learning. This was the second time I’ve been. The first time I went was in October 2015, the service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. The head waiter (trainer) was fabulous and took the time to get to know us. The service was top notch. The food was equally good. My second time, the experience was not as good as the first. When I arrived the waiters were a bit hesitant to direct me to my table and wanted me to wait for my assigned waiter. For the entree, I had the pork and shitake dumplings. This was nice; the sesame chilli dipping sauce gave it good flavour. For the main, I had the pan fried market fish (picture). It was quite salty. I was still able to eat this but the seasoning really put this dish down. I informed the head waiter (trainer) and I was offered a new plate or another drink. It was good to see a customer’s issue being resolved promptly. I took the drink. I was given the wrong drink; this again was quickly resolved when I informed the head waiter. The fish was cooked well. The potato salad, prawn and tomato salsa provided a good complementary to the fish. For the dessert, I had the frozen banana (picture). The frozen banana is something different. It was just okay. The waiter had forgotten to give us cutlery when the desserts were served.Despite the second dining experience not being as good as the first, I would come back. Generally the food is of a high standard. I don’t mind the service being less than perfect as long as any issues are resolved promptly and the customers are being looked after.
Dinner at Bistro 52 last night was a delightful, Tuesday treat. The six of us enjoyed a meal here last year and were happy to return. And the GrabOne deal we redeemed made the meal even more economical than it already would have been ($20 for three courses? Amazing!). Between us, we tried everything on the menu except the pasta main and banana dessert. The meals were generous in size and delicious to eat. The lemon tart could have been much tartier (is that a word?), but still very tasty. Thanks, team! See you next time 🙂
