Nice intimate place for a drink or two- I particularly love the secretive entry leading to the shop. The menu has some interesting choices with many old classics and they can make special ones upon request. I also found the cheese board good company for the drinks.
Haven’t experienced much in that place but I love it ! Simply love it. I asked for an amaretto sour and let’s be honest 84% of the bars can’t do a proper one but still charge you a ridiculous price for it. Not Hawthorn. My amaretto was truly succulent, well dosed, glass full enough, it’s been a while since I last had a decent amaretto and even longer since I actually enjoyed one ! Location is a bit tricky but you’d expect that for that kinda of place off the road. The inside is really dandy, cozy, chilled and as the place is not big noise level is actually perfect. The staff was friendly and well dressed. I’d definitely go back to chill after a day at work !
This is yet another one of Wellington’s hidden gems, tucked away upstairs just off Tory Street. It’s moody yet elegant decor is both warming and unique. Picture well dressed men, smoking cigars, sitting on leather sits. Not to mention the crackling fireplace where you are welcome to toast a marshmallow or two! The bartenders here know their stuff, and you can see they are passionate about what they do. The menu is constantly changing – last time the menu was themed to hot/cold Katy Perry, where the drinks are served either hot (warm or spicy) or with ice. I ordered a warm drink that consisted of pumpkin, peanut butter, bourbon and vodka – a weird blend of flavours, crafted perfectly to make an amazing unique drink. If nothing tickles your fancy on the menu, chat to the bartenders and they will be willing to mix you something up on the spot. They also have cards on hand, so you can enjoy the warmth, play a game of cards while slipping away at your cocktail.#challange Sarah Reynolds mindthecrumbs.com
A great spot for a cocktail or two. A little honey tucked away with a lovely friendly vibe. A must return to.
Tucked away next to a Mexican restaurant and hidden up some unassuming stairs us the Hawthorn Lounge, a cozy wee cocktail bar that really delivers some stunning drinks. The guys on the bar really know their stuff and there is a constantly changing menu that’ll surprise and delight. The Hawthorn is definitely worth a visit
Easily the best cocktail bar in Wellington, Hawthorn is small and perfectly appointed. Peter and Giancarlo are wizards with alcohol – encyclopaedic in their knowledge, and clearly in love with what they do.In winter the bar also features a real fire, and marshmallows for toasting!
