Came here for lunch. Booking for midday was no worries at all. We ordered the gilled halloumi with cooked greens ans grain salad that came with grilled bread. Seasoned well but would have enjoyed a little more salad for the price. Also the organic buttermilk fried chicken salad was tasty, yet looked a little on the small side. Luckily it came with complimentary bread. Hannah Eaton
I love the ambience in this place. I feel fresh and sophisticated when I walk in if that doesn’t sound weird. The food is so good the pancakes are light and fluffy and the counter food is so good. I like the type of food on the menu it’s all light and simple with good ingredients.
Nikau is a gorgeous café in the centre of Wellington. We went there at noon on a Saturday and the place was busy but we were able to get a table for 6 straight away. My cappuccino was great and I loved that it came with greated chocolate on top! Scones were yummy.
Was blown away by the food her when I stopped in for lunch during a visit to the gallery. Had the grilled ridicchio with a 7 minute egg and anchovy sauce. The flavour combination and textures were unusual and outstanding. Later I had a piece of lemon and poppy seed shortbread, again it was a fantastic compo of flavours and textures. Clearly, love and expertise goes into the cooking here – and the coffee! The service was also great, attentive but relaxed, and the setting was comparable and friendly.
Nice atmosphere and service. The food was good but portion size was disappointing. Both the lunch mains we got (fried chicken and halloumi with salad) were tasty however could only be considered light meals. I have heard good things about the breakfast menu so might return to try it another time.
Classic breakfast choices with a fresh edge. My cousin recommended this hidden away spot and it was delightful. My family said the coffee was great and I enjoyed my tangelo juice. Between us we had the avo on toast, scrambled eggs and hotcakes with bacon. Everything was well cooked and artfully plated (difficult with scrambled eggs!), the bacon was perfectly crisp so two thumbs up. There were nice little touches like the pickled radish with the avo and lemon in the maple syrup for the hotcakes. The cafe is housed in a lovely contemporary space connecting to the City Gallery. Service was great too. Would definitely return when back in Wellington.
My sister comes A LOT so I came along with her to study one morning. The staff were lovely and attentive and I never felt rushed to leave even though I was sitting on my coffee and pastry for a while. The coffee itself was good – nice and strong. The pastry was also tasty. Overall the people and the atmosphere made it a great place. Never tried and food from the menu so can’t comment on that
