If you like wine, this is the place to go. Tried it for dinner on a Wednesday night and ate in the bar as the main dining room was set up for a large party. Excellent service, as there were only a couple of us dining at the time. Both the Hapuka (catch of the day) and the slow-roasted lamb were superb, as were the accompanying vegetables. However, it was the overall wine/food/service experience that really makes this place special. Recommend the Chateau Marsyas cab/merlot/syrah from Lebanon. Perfect with the lamb.
Four of us tried Noble Rot on a cold wet Sunday night. We had been just after it had opened but decided to let it settle in before doing a review. They have an extensive wine list, a number of which can be purchased by the glass, but be warned the cost can build up.We tried a selection of cured meats and cheeses – once again tread carefully as the cost can build up.We also tried the duck liver parfait (nice but very rich) and the smoked cheese soufflé (over cooked and not sure why they decided to use smoked cheese as it left an odd aftertaste). One major downside apparent from keeping track of the cost was the slow the service – we would have ordered another round of drinks but got bored waiting.Total cost was $420 for four but to be fair half of that was for the wine.Worth a try but I’m not sure we will go back.
With great excitement, I was all ready to confirm a booking at Noble Rot for my second Vegan six course degustation dinner experience when I received a phone call from a Noble Rot staff member saying that over the course of just ten days (the time since my first Noble Rot Vegan six course degustation dinner experience) the price of that degustation dinner had increased by forty dollars $40! (from $110 to $150). I did not hesitate an instant and immediately cancelled the reservation.I was impressed with my first Noble Rot Vegan degustation dinner experience and believed I had found a trustworthy restaurant. Not the case. Simple business 101 says high quality must be backed by excellent service – consistent over a business’s lifetime. The Noble Rot online and printed menus list the six course degustation dinner at one hundred and ten dollars ($110). Jacking up the price of this $110 dinner by $40, is a bizarre and clearly amateur business decision.Instead of this restaurant review being a permanent imprint of negativity and a reminder of Noble Rot’s absence of effective quality management, simply honouring the published dinner price would have seen me enthusiastically rocking up to the restaurant, smiling, eagerly awaiting the presentation of each course and telling the online community and close friends how wonderful Noble Rot is.It’s not easy for a business to simultaneously spit the dummy and chuck the toys out of the cot, but in the world of infant-class enterprises, Noble Rot has this tantrum down and has triumphed. You never know when Noble Rot will randomly try to shred an unassuming and trusting customer’s wallet with a thirty-six percent (36%) price increase, so to avoid disappointment, give Noble Rot a huge miss and stay clear of it well into the future.
Excellent concept and venue – that’s any wine enthusiasts’ dream. Wine list may be a little too New Zealand and France focused (Italian Pinot Grigio on Coravin, really?!) BUT the selection is impressive and their care for fine wines is unflappable.
Extensive wine list as one would expect from a wine bar. Funky little joint with great decor cool music and a wide selection of wines both local and international. Didn’t eat dinner here but had a really nice cheese plate. A little expensive at $16 a glass (150ml) but it’s worth it fir the experience
Havent really had much experience at a wine bar but went with a couple of girls (one of which has very extensive knowledge of wine). She ordered for all of us. Great seevice and ambience. Will be returning to try out some of the yummy food I saw walk past!
Best fish dish ever! Crispy skin, velvet flavour, and beautifully presented – as was the steak. We skipped dessert but will definitely be back !
