One of best spots for nice coffee. Love it’s high ceiling and ample space. Easy to park and perfect excuse to get out of your office and take long walk to come here to relax.
Real shame, lovely location but blunt staff, overpriced and under portioned meals make this place very forgettable. Each of these alone are forgivable, but together make a rather unpleasant experience. Fortunately we are spoilt for choice in Wellington, so I have no need to return!
Next time I attempt to go here I will take a timer. It was 9.30 am, about 6 people in the cafe. Took maybe 3 minutes before my takeaway order was taken. Had I wanted cake for breakfast I would have been spoilt for choice – it appears there were no savoury options available as counter food. It took maybe 10 minutes to make my coffee, during which time I managed to read 3 pages of the Dom post. Waiting in a mostly empty cafe, and now starting to run late, I’m finally handed a coffee which I take without question. As I leave I discover this is not what I ordered but I’m not waiting another 10 minutes for a different one.There is so much going for this place – view, location, fit-out, yet these all lend to the expectation that the standard will be higher than the average Wellington cafe, not lower.Poor effort.
Nice little cafe but really really noisy. We’ve headed there for some food and it was truly delicious, they were very accommodating as well. And we got some sparkling water which was a pleasant surprise. However, despite the food being really good i don’t think it’s worth the price. The pictures below are between $15.5 and $17.5, and there is just not enough in your plate for that price. We all left the table hungry unfortunately, too bad because that was a charming place.
Have been to Poneke twice now and enjoyed both experiences. On the last visit we ordered the chowder and the charcuterie board. Both were rich in flavour and the roasted grapes on the board were a nice touch. The chowder was chunky and very filling. A lovely spot by the water and the complimentary sparkling water is always welcome. However paying $7 for a fruit tart was not ideal the rest of the menu really impresses.
Great venue at the old overseas terminal. Sparkling water was given without asking which I loved but my friend prefers still. The menu has some interesting items that you don’t get at other cafes. I went for the granola with yoghurt mousse and figs. I asked for a side of milk. The waitress said they don’t normally serve it with milk as the mousse was enough but I would’ve found it too dry without the milk. It was pretty tasty. My friend’s broccolini “salad” turned out to be a few florets of broccolini served on toast that had some avocado smash on it. Not what she expected a salad to be.
