I’m not a big fan of their pizzas but I love their mozzarella sticks. Staff is very friendly. Their garlic knots is also a must try. I’m a big fan of their garlic knots!

I was a little underwhelmed with the meatball pizza & Chicken pizza, the flavors were dull and lacked proper punch. The pizza’s here a very much like the $1 pizza’s they serve in New York pizzerias’ (Low quality). I understand it’s a franchise but it lacks originality and flavors that a unique to NZ tastebuds.

I finally made it to Sal’s after over a year of planning to go and it was very anti-climactic. My boyfriend and I decided to go for our anniversary as we aren’t very high maintenance when it comes to food but we both wished we just stayed home. Firstly, when we walked in up to the counter, there were 2 people behind it making food and 1 other person walked past us to get behind the counter and none of them even said hi to us at all until about 5 minutes later when they asked if they could take our order. I ordered the only pizza I wanted on the menu, to be told that they were out of basil so I couldn’t have it. We were then told they had no cheesecake when we asked for it, the one dessert item they offer. So we ordered and went to go sit down – there was one free table covered in rubbish from the previous customer but we had no other choice. This rubbish didn’t get cleared until the staff brought out our pizza at least 10 minutes later. At this point we were so underwhelmed by the whole experience that we ate our average meal and left as fast as we could.

I love sals! I haven’t got a full pizza yet but I look forward to the day I do. I like it better than tommy millions because the crust is not as crispy. It is a good mixture of crusty and soft. I love getting the veggie with mushrooms however it says on the menu that it comes with capsicum but the capsicum has been inconsistent sometimes it comes with it most of the time it doesn’t. I think you have to ask for it but if you have to ask for it why don’t you put that on the menu? I’m also not a huge fan of the mozzarella sticks, they’re good when they’re fresh but once they get cold they’re kinda gross. I also think the garlic knots have really improved they used to burn the shit out of them but now they’re soft and doughy and delish.

A couple of weeks ago I was participating in the 48hour film festival. One of the team popped out for food and came back with Sals pizza. I ate the cheese and tomato pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it. Authentic tomato flavour and an abundance of cheese. Very satisfying.Fast forward a couple of weeks and I was out for dinner and wanted to try Sals again. We sat in and ordered a half and half of the cheese and the staton island with cheese. I like the decor here. Feels American in that ‘it looks like the places in sitcoms’ but it’s cool and like it regardless of whether it’s authentic.Pizza took 10mins. You’re advised to leave it stand for 3 or 4 mins before wasting. Given the steam coming off it that’s a good call. I must admit the cheese pizza seemed a bit nicer the first time I had it but just a bit. Still really enjoyable. The veggie half was a nice contrast and again very tasty. I like that they have oregano and chilli shakers on the table. We really enjoyed the pizza. One 18 inch satisfied both myself and my partner and left me three slices for lunch the next day. Score.I also had a panhead beer. All up it cost $35.
