TK has been around for many years with recent owners changing the style and menu. The current set up offers low powered camp BBQs that take a while to get up to heat, especially with the type of hotplate and tin foil they use here. The BBQ menu range is very limited compared to other BBQ restaurant’s I have been to, but the side dishes and flavours are good. The set price is a little high for the range on offer, but overall a good place for a meal.
This place is satisfying and tasty. You get what you pay for for the $28 buffet and the meat is nice enough. I like the sweet and sour pork and fries, they are quite yummy. Will come here often when ravenously hungry.
A group of 8 of us recently visited this restaurant. What a mistake that was. Apart from the fact that there are signs absolutely everywhere on how much they are going to charge you extra if you do this, or do that, or do the other, sitting at a cramped table with two poxy and revolting looking camping-type grill burners to cook my own meal was just a joke. The food was average at best and the service way less than average. But the best was yet to come. When we were leaving, I paid last for my wife and I and what was left to pay was what we thought would be left. However, they over-charged me by $4 on the “corkage”, making my totoal bill $68 instead of $64. I let that slide as I just wanted to leave. I paid cash but they didn’t offer a receipt. The 8 of us were standing outside having a chat about which bar we were going on to when they came running out saying someone hadn’t paid for two buffets and one corkage. That was mine and my wife’s. We all marched back in and had a huge argument with the owners. I vocally explained how I handed over $70 and got $2 in change (showing them the $2 coin) and being ripped off by $4 and now you push your luck and want to rip me off a second time. Then it dawned on me – chances are the person who took my payment pocketed the money. No wonder she didn’t give me a receipt! Unless you want to be treated like dirt topped off by being ripped off – then DON’T GO THERE. EVER!!!
It’s criminal that there aren’t more Korean BBQ joints in Wellington. Given this, it’s mind boggling that the Taste of Korea has so many negative reviews. I think reviewers need to understand the proper culture of Korean BBQ. It’s essentially self-service BBQ where the autonomy is given to the diners. This means that it’s up to the diners to be creative and decide how to eat their dishes. Criterion to determine a successful Korean BBQ are as follows:- The cut, freshness and variety of meat.- Authenticity and taste of its side dishes.- How the Korean Fried chicken is.In terms of the variety of meat, TK is very limited, but I found the meat to be quite fresh and the cut of meat to be quite good in terms of the pork and bulgogi. The side dishes are awesome– they have deokbokki, pretty good kimchi and raddish.During my time in Wellingon I have often searched fruitlessly around for authentic Korean fried chicken. Even now, as I’m working in Auckland, I find it difficult to find a place that serves that crispy unique taste. TK delivers with excellent fried chicken that is fried to be supremely crunchy, with a dash of sweet chilli spice and tender cooked chicken inside.Showstopper; Best Korean fried chicken hands down in Wellington. Also, the cut of pork is excellent.Overall Grade: A
My friend like Korean barbecue very much, but there are not many good restaurants in wellington. I doubt whether I should go to this restaurant because of the low rating in zomato. However, I feel the food here is very delicious, and the korean girl and boy stuff are very helpful and nice, they help us to change seat several times after we requested. My wife and I like the Roast streaky pork very much. They replenish the food quickly after it is not enough, so we eat a lot.Besides the meat, the fried pumpkin is also my favorite, this is my first time to eat this, my friends also agree with me on this. After the meal we went to the South Asian Night Market in the waterfront, it’s a lovely night.
I went here 5 years ago and didn’t have a good experience. 5 years later nothing much had changed.1. The prices on the website are not the same as the prices on the menu in store. Would be good if they could update this. 2. It’s a bit confronting seeing posters saying they’ll charge you $30 if you have any leftovers.3. The menu food was bland and too expensive for what you get.I’m not giving a bad review out of pettiness but I really am disappointed and felt so uncomfortable in there.
