I was very impressed with the quality of the produce and the preparation. This place serves New Zealand styled fusion dishes. We got the octopus tacos, Beef fat potatoes, wakanui steak balvette, prime sirloin, lamb neck massamam. Service was also excellent
Cool vibe, and nice food. But prices didn’t quite match the service we received. Wait staff were friendly, but very casual – they rearranged half the restaurant around us (and ask for a service tip afterwards!?) We were glad we were given a voucher to pay for the meal – wouldn’t have be stoked to pay out of my own pocket!
Wonderful wine list, flavorful dishes and considered service. Recommend the satay beef, lime popcorn and raw fish curry. And the pork dumplings are phenomenal!
Finally Had a dinner here after hearing lots good on it. 3 of us came at around 5:30pm, it is a clean and quite place. However the whole experience was not that good. No staff came to us to introduce their blackboard specials (we came for their fresh seafood and daily-updating specials). So we ordered by our imagination. The entrees were ok. I had duck with red curry as my main, it came with rice, many bones and just a little meat ( I wouldn’t order it if I knew it’s with rice and bones). My friend had crispy skin warehou which came with rice and curry too( she didn’t know) . We even thought they made mistakes. And she said the skin part was too salty. It is so disappointing to have it as my farewell dinner with friends.
The flavours were great but the portions were tiny and our entree took over an hour to come to our table. I went for a special occassion as a colleague raved about how great it was. Perhaps my expectations were too high? I would not go back at all.
Lovely tapas plates and very interesting, flavoursome large plates. We dined as a group of eight or so and we did not have one dud dish. Very helpful and knowledgeable wait staff too.
Have been four or five times over the past year. This is a foodie restaurant with an interesting, varied menu. Shellfish seems to figure large but the variation of dishes changes with the seasons – as it should. Some follow trends – pulled pork and bone marrow are current but many are simple standards – tuatua, oysters, squid. Ambience is cool and very Wellington, great steel framed windows overlooking Victoria street shoppers, a small number of tables and bar seating looking over the kitchen. Kids probably not, but it depends on the kids upbringing – foodwise. Not a first date restaurant but certainly one down the track. Ambience is warm and noisy when it gets busy in the evening. The dishes are small, delicious, rarely boring and often very clever. Personally I’d go for more small plates than one large but everyone’s different. If it’s your first time maybe go for variety and when you know the restaurant go for the bigger plates. In some ways more adventurous than its big sister Capitol, of a smaller scale and more relaxed. It’s not a Logan brown or Ortega but it’s somewhere you could drop into at lunch or after work and happily be stimulated by something of interest. The staff like everywhere can vary but usually very helpful and the maitre’d is relaxed, pleasant and knowledgeable. Wine list is small but good. Wbc is a place I’d look forward to going back to every month or so. It is certainly in my top ten Wellington restaurants.
