I wish this place wasn’t so dark. I avoid it in summer for this exact reason, however, popped in one day as the nearby pubs where completely full. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. If it was a brighter more welcoming interior, I would make this place my local.
Interesting place. I took overseas visitors there several times. They liked the place as there are many stories to tell about MPs. Foods are nice. Nice selection of beer too. I would recommend this place.
Went here for dinner the other day and really enjoyed myself. We ordered calamari and fries to start, which were gorgeous. Calamari was cooked to perfection and came with a citrus dip that was to die for. Fries were hot and fresh. I ordered the mushroom risotto. Perfectly executed and thoughtfully made, the risotto was tasty and savory, with the side salad helping it not be too overwhelming. Partner and his father both ordered the lamb rack and each said it was delicious. Partners mother ordered the fish of the day and said it was amazing- perfectly cooked, plentiful and heaped with fresh greens. Also ordered some seasonal vegetables for the table which were great too- veges were char grilled and super tasty in themselves which is usually hard to get at restaurants. Definitely will be back again!!!
Went to the Backbencher for a late lunch. There were only two or three other tables occupied . Ordered a drink then ordered some food. The drinks came and we waited for our lunch and waited and waited. When we saw the table that came in after us get their food we asked staff if we would get our order soon. A waiter informed us that they didn’t have our order and would we like to re-order! The meals that came by looked fine but I couldn’t possibly comment. We did get a free beer but that just seemed a little lame
I can’t stop raving about the Backbencher. Maybe I’ve just had a few bad meals lately, or was just starving. But I recently had an amazing lunch meal at the Backbencher. Perfect pasta, I’ve been thinking about it for days!
A very pleasant evening. I had the sirloin which was cooked to perfection. My friend had the venison sausages which were plentiful and had a home made feel. Service was slow, but attentive and generally friendly.
Good friendly service. It was a cold day outside and this place felt particularly cosy. Myself and a friend had a few beers which were spot on and some hand cut fries which were ok. It was nice to be asked if we wanted another drink without leaving the table. I would definitely go back.
