Lovely food, gorgeous building, good service friendly staff very accommodating. Lovely history of Wellington on the walls, loved the mushroom risotto.
Love coming here. This time we went for a romantic meal. My Friend has coeliac disease and they went out of there way to ensure everything was gluten-free. I also fancied an Affrogato which wasn’t on the dessert menu but they were very happy to accommodate. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere great.
With so many dark bars in Wellington, the interior of this pub is a selling point. Just get in early as it’s a popular place after work. A great buzz and and a great place for an after work drink
Went there for a work dinner and the place was warm and welcoming. I particularly liked the scallops with black pudding. Not usually got for the black pudding but it was nicely balanced in terms of favour and texture. The main course of steak was also nicely cocked.
Went there several times with colleagues. Very nice setting and good selection of food. I saw many groups who came for drink after work. Many govt staff as well. You can’t make a mistake. Recommended
Visited on Thursday with family and had a superb meal. Two of the party had the smoked pork, one the fish & chips and I had the Rib Eye steak – we also each had a first course which proved a mistake in the best sense. I can recommend the signature dish – scallops on black pudding, the rest of the party had the fish and prawns. The servings are on the very generous side and when we return, we’ll either have two appertisers or a main course (but not both). The waitress was very attentive and in all this was an excellent meal for a very reasonable price. Must also mention the wine matches which were spot on – the wine list isn’t extensive but is well chosen. I really recommend the Thistle and we plan a repeat visit in the near future
Fabulous place for a drink with friends over some of the great small sharing played on the menu. The Kumera fries with blue cheese were fabulous, as we the lamb skewers and Paua fritters. The fish gougons were a little on the dry side, but otherwise everything was excellent. Great service.
